71-74 RoadRunners
By my member name its obvious I dont have a bird... not yet anyways. I do have an e-58 optioned 76 Duster though. I love the 71-74 birds and was wondering what they weigh in at? Are they fairly heavy? Would love to get my hands on one with a BB in petty blue with buckets and a slapstick. Gotta find one first though!

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
I can't find in any references that I have as to curb weight. Can anyone else help him out?
I know one thing, my 72 is HEAVY with or without the RB:)

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
Mine is a 73 RR. My registration shows the curb weight at 4200 lbs. That is with a 340 and a 727. I'm sure it would be a couple of hundred more with a big block.

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
According to the Hot Cars Folder, which has the all the vital

statistics for a 1971 Hemi Road Runner, the actual weight is

3,440 lbs...

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
I don't have anything in front of me, but to the best of my knowlege they should weigh in at around 38-3900 lbs. That's a couple hundred pounds more then the 68-69 RR's.

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
Seems all the mopars got fat in the mid 70's so I was curious. Even my Duster gained weight due to different bumpers etc. Seems 71 -72 RR are tough to find.

I do think the 71-72 look better than the 73-74 cars, but none better than the 1970 (no offense, ya'll)

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
I tried to rent a trailer to tow my 71 RR from Reno, NV to Sacto., CA; they said the RR listed at 3640#, and too heavy to pull with a 91 F150. That's for a 340/727 car. Have not actually weighed the car (ie, race track, etc). K

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
Can't rent a trailer? That's sounds familiar....
I wanted to tow my car from Abilene, Tejas to Memphis, Tenn after I came back from Saudi years ago. One U-Haul center turned me away because they said the car was too big to fit on their biggest trailer. I knew from past experience that their trailers could carry my car so I called a different U-Haul joint and told them I was hauling a Colt:) A 1/2-ton 96 Dodge pulled it wth no problems...

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
I once tried to rent a car dollie from U-haul to tow a 67 Coronet R/T with no engine/trans in it and they told me the car was too heavy and wouldn't let me rent. So I went to another u-haul and told them I was towing a Vega, the let me have it.

Weird shit eh.

Petty Blue with buckets and slapstick....yeah!
My very first car was a 72 RR...but I didn't get the one I initially wanted. I had ordered a 1972 Roadrunner in March of 1972 and it would have been Basin Street Blue (which is Petty blue to ya'll) with a 400 cid and auto/slapstick and black roof strobe. It was suppose to be delivered in 6 weeks. After about a month I got a letter saying my order did not make the cut off for 1972 and I would be getting a 1973 instead.

I really didn't want the 73....there was something about the B-bumper on the 71-72 that just got my blood flowing. So, I had my dealer do a search on all the remaining stock of 72 RRs he could find. He got me a white 72 bird with a 340/buckets/slapstick/airgrabber car out of Idaho. It had the hood/deck stripes that were only available on airgrabber birds (and Satellite Sebrings). I loved that car, but I always wished I had gotten my Petty blue bird.

My current 72 RR is blue....Viper blue.

You do know that the 72 RR is the rarest of all birds, which is one reason they are so hard to find, right? They made significantly more 71's and 73's than they did 72's (less than 7,000). The first year of the smogger engines really killed sales in 72.

Re: 71-74 RoadRunners
I have a 72 bird and I gotta tell you, parts are REALLY hard to find! I've been looking for headlight buckets and taillights all over the place. I've been told the grille for the 72 RR only pertained to the RR. I've got all the pieces, but some of the screw holes are stripped out. I guess I should be happy with the fact that I actually have the parts! :D

You mentioned that a dealer helped you find your 1972 RR. My favorite is the 1973-74 RR. What was your dealer's name and number? Perhaps they can help me. Thanks..
