Cassie and Elijah were in the park late at night staring at the stars. Cassie heard Elijah shift over closer to her.

“You look so beautiful tonight.” She heard Elijah say in a sigh. “I’m so glad I have you in my life.”

She felt him place a hand on the small of her stomach and looked up at him as he shifted to look down on her. She watched him lean down and kiss her softly at first then more hungrily on the lips. She kissed him back, trying to enjoy the kiss but visions of Dominic kept swimming before her eyes. She felt Elijah’s hand underneath her shirt tracing circles around her navel as he kissed her. His hand was going ever so slowly to the top button of her Levi’s. She pulled her lips from his and pushed his hands away.

“We can’t do this now! We’re in a park. What if someone walks up.” She joked as she stood up and pushed her hair away from her face, staring down as Elijah stood up.
Elijah pulled her to him and leaned in to nip at her neck, gently. Her hair muffled his voice, “Well we can go back to my place. No one will walk in on us there.”
She playfully pushed him away and Elijah moaned and reached for her again, “Awwww come on now. You’re killing me.” He jokingly teased.
“I need to get some rest, we begin filming early tomorrow morning.”
She watched Elijah look down and put his hands in his pockets. “O.K. Fine.”

Cassie immediately felt guilty. She knew she should tell him about Dominic and her love for him but she couldn’t bring herself to do it. Every time she tried her tongue got stuck in the back of her throat. She knew Dominic felt guilty also about lying to Elijah but what could they do? She needed him. Her and Dominic had been seeing each other for about 4 months and over that time she had fallen hard for him, and he for her. They tried to see each other as often as they could but sometimes it was nearly impossible. If only she could tell Elijah that she was in love with someone else then everything would be O.K. and she and Dominic could see each other as often as they liked.

Cassie was pulled from her thoughts by the feel of Elijah’s hand in hers. She turned her head to look at him. He was always so sweet to her. She gave him a smile and let him lead her out of the park as her thoughts went back to Dominic. How handsome he was. He was everything she could want in a man and more. He was charming, witty, fun to be around, and so much more. Not to mention he had a nice ass. She had thought Elijah was the one man for her but then she met Dominic that fateful night when Elijah introduced them at his house. She remembered the feeling in her stomach as he said hello to her. She had gotten so dizzy with the intensity in his eyes as he looked at her that she had to excuse herself to the bathroom so she could regain her composure. She remembered the slow way they had started seeing each other. Elijah would invite them both out to dinner with him and while both, Dominic and Cassie, waited for Elijah they chatted and got to know each other and soon began seeing each other without Elijah around.

Once again she was pulled from her thoughts when Elijah suddenly stopped.
“We’re here!” Elijah announced dramatically, waving his hands toward her house.
She turned from his side, looked up at the house and sighed. She started walking towards the front door.
“Won’t you have me in?” Elijah inquired teasingly. “I promise to be on my best behavior.” He gave her a wink.
She turned to face him, “I told you I have to go to bed early.” He pulled her toward him. “Well we can get to bed early. Just think, me… you… together… alone.” She felt him against her leg.

She knew what he wanted. She should have known Elijah wouldn’t be happy just holding hands after all those times together. The truth was she didn’t want Elijah anymore. She wanted Dominic. Only Dominic. Her insides stirred with the memory of their first night together. She remembered it like it was yesterday. She remembered the feel of Dominic’s hands as they trailed lovingly along her body and the way his kisses felt on her bare skin. Why couldn’t it be him standing in front of her now on the sidewalk, she wondered.

“So what do you say?” Elijah murmured into her hair.
She clenched her teeth together. “Like I said before, I can’t.”
When she saw his blue eyes darken in hurt she immediately regretted saying it. She hadn’t meant for it to come out so harsh.
“Fine if that’s what you want. I’ll call you tomorrow.” He kissed her quickly on the cheek and turned to leave. She stood on the sidewalk, watching him walk away.

When he was out of sight she turned and walked up the steps of her house. When she opened the door the phone was ringing. She hurried to the kitchen and wondering who was calling so late, picked up the phone.
“Hello?”
“Hey, its me Dominic.”
Her insides went jelloid at the sound of his voice.
“Hey yourself. How are ya doing?” She breathed into the phone, wanting to tell him to come over because she needed him in her arms.
“I’m good. I’ve been trying to reach you all day. I was going to come over but you weren’t there. Anyway, I wanted to talk to you about something. It’s important.”
She felt the dread seeping into her stomach.
She kept her voice calm. “O.K., shoot.”
She heard him take a shaky breath.
“I’ve been thinking… Maybe it’s best if we don’t see each other anymore.”
Her breath caught in her throat. “What?”
“I really hate doing this to Lij. He’s like a brother to me it would kill him if he ever found out about us.”
“But Dominic…” She felt the tears welling up in her eyes.
“Please don’t make this any harder than it is already.” She heard him choke back a sob. “It’s not something I want to do. You and Elijah belong together. Y’all are made for each other and I’m only in the way.”
“No! Please! I love you!” She cried into the phone.
“I love you too, that’s what makes it so hard. I’ll always love you till the day I die and even then you will be in my heart but its time we did the right thing.”

She heard the click of Dominic hanging up. Sinking down to the floor she cried into her knees. This can’t be happening she thought to herself. It is all a dream. That’s all it is. I’ll wake up and it will be over. But in her deepest heart of hearts she knew it wasn’t a dream. It was reality and there was nothing she could do to change it. She let out a scream of anguish and picked herself off the floor.
“Fuck him.” She muttered. Wiping tears from her face, she pushed the heartache deep inside her. She would not think about it. She would not let it get the best of her. If he wanted to call it quits, let him. She didn’t need him. She stomped upstairs to her bedroom and lay down to sleep.

                                                **

When she awoke the next morning the day was overcast and it looked like rain. When she rose from the bed the memory of last nights phone call came rushing back to her. She fell back onto the bed and let the tears roll down her cheeks as she stared at the ceiling. She dreaded seeing him today while filming. She didn’t know how she should act around him without making Elijah suspicious or breaking down in tears. She contemplated calling in with an excuse as to why she couldn’t come in when the phone rang. “God, who is it now?” she muttered as she picked up the phone.

“Hello?” she bit into the phone.
“Hey. Guess who?” said the cheery voice.
It was Elijah.
“Ummmm… Elijah?” she pretended to sound confused.
“Yea. How’d ya know?”
“Lucky guess.”
“Oh right. Anyway, when do u think you are going to get to the studio?” she heard both excitement and nervousness in his voice.
“I’m not sure… probably around 10:00 or so. Why?”
“No reason. Just wondering! See you then. Love ya.”

She gave the phone a confused look and sat it back into its cradle. What was up with him? There was definitely something going on she just didn’t know what it was. She didn’t really care at the moment anyway. As long as he didn’t do something stupid like jumping out of a cake and proposing to her then she’d be fine. Nothing could be worse than that. She walked into her bathroom and started the shower. She shed her nightgown and looked at her face in the mirror. Her eyes were blood shot and her cheeks were tearstained. She rubbed at her face and stepped into the shower. Then she stood under the hot water and let it run over her.

                                                **
She was fixing herself a bagel when she heard a knock on the door.
“Coming!” she yelled. “Who is it?” she asked when she got to the door.
“Delivery for a Miss. Cassie West.” The voice on the other side answered.
Delivery? She hadn’t ordered anything. She opened the door to reveal a delivery guy holding a clipboard and a long white box with a giant red bow taped to the top.
“You Miss. West?”
“Yes.”
Handing her the clipboard he said, “Well then if you’ll just sign here.”
When she had signed her name he handed her the long box.
“Thanks.” She muttered looking at the box in confusion.
“No problem.” The delivery guy turned and walked down the steps, whistling.

She wondered what could possibly be in the box and who had sent it. She walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa. She carefully took the large bow off the box and sat it down beside her. She slowly lifted the top of the box and stared inside. Inside was a beautiful white rose with a long stem. She stared at the white rose and fingered the petals thoughtfully. Who had sent her this? Her stomach fluttered with the thought that maybe it was from Dominic, sending it to apologize for last night. She looked back down into the box and saw a card with her name on it. She picked it up and read what was inside.

        Cassie,
I know white roses are your favorite. I thought you might need some
cheering up because you sounded so unhappy this morning. I hope
        you like it.
                                                                Love,
                                                                Elijah

So the flower wasn’t from Dominic. Why would it be? She thought bitterly. He had made it clear last night that he didn’t want to see her anymore. She wiped the flowing tears from her eyes and stood up. She carried the rose into the kitchen and found a vase under the sink. Washing the vase out she filled it with water. Carefully she put the rose into the water and carried the vase into the living room. Picking up her stuff and wiping the last remaining tears from her eyes, she walked out the door.

**

When she arrived at the studio everyone was hustling about trying to get things in order. She looked around at the chaos and started walking to her dressing room so she could be alone. When she was halfway there she saw Dominic and he was staring at her. She tried not to look at him as she passed. She could feel the heat from his gaze. She wanted to throw herself at him and make him take her back. But she didn’t have the courage to do so. She just looked down and pushed the thoughts from her mind. She could feel the tears welling up and quickened her pace so he wouldn’t see her cry. When she reached her dressing room she pushed the door open and slammed it shut. When she was safe from prying eyes she threw her stuff on the floor and sat down on her sofa. She cried until she could cry no more. She wondered in anger at herself at why she couldn’t get up the nerve to tell Elijah it was over. Why couldn’t she just break up with him? If she had, her and Dominic would still be together… laughing and joking and planning what they would do after filming was done for the day. But no she was a coward. She smacked her fist on the edge of the couch in frustration. At that moment she heard a knock at the door.
“Who is it?!” she yelled.
“It’s me Elijah! Open up!”
He sounded nervous. She wondered why as she opened the door.
“Yes?”
“Will you come out here for a moment?”
“Why? Can’t you talk to me right here? Or at least come in here?” She said with frustration.
She looked over his shoulder and saw Billy, Orlando, Liv, and Viggo standing a little ways back with big grins on their faces. Liv had her hands held together at her chest looking hopeful.
She gave Elijah a puzzled look. “Elijah, what’s going on?”
He looked shyly down then back up at her.
“I’ve got something to ask you.” At that moment she watched as he bent down on one knee.
“Elijah! Get up. What are you doing?” she cried out. This is not what she needed. She did not want this. Elijah ignored her futile cries for him to stand up.
He extended a small box from his pocket. “Cassie.” She looked at him, hoping what was happening was just a dream. “Cassie. Will you marry me?”
She looked over his shoulder once more and instead of seeing just Billy, Orlando, Liv, and Viggo she saw Dominic. He was standing in the shadows watching. She saw him nod at her indicating that she should say yes. She burst into tears as she looked back down at Elijah. She thought silently to herself, a heart breaking isn’t always as loud as a bomb exploding… Sometimes it can be as quiet as a feather falling…and the most painful thing is, no one really hears it, except you. She wanted them all to hear her heart breaking. She wanted them to know how much it was killing her. But they didn’t know. She thought of telling them. Telling them all that she was in love with Dominic not Elijah but she was too much of a coward. She couldn’t bring herself to do it anymore than she could 4 months ago.

She looked back to where Dominic was standing and saw that he had gone. She stared down at Elijah and murmured the one word she knew he wanted to hear.
“Yes.”
He jumped up and hugged her, pulling her tight to him. As he did so she heard Liv squeal in delight and Viggo, Billy, and Orlando yell out “Congratulations!”

**
8 months later
Today was the day. Today was the day she was getting married to Elijah. She had spent months halfheartedly planning the wedding with the help of Liv. Thankfully it was only going to be a somewhat small wedding. The only people that would be there was Elijah’s parents and some of their mutual friends.

“You’d better hurry up and get dressed! You don’t want to be late for your own wedding now do you?” she heard Liv say in a teasing tone.
“I guess not.” She muttered.
“What’s the matter? This should be the happiest day of your life. Are you nervous? It’s O.K. to be nervous. It’s a big day for you. But Elijah loves you and I’m sure y’all will have a wonderful life together.” Liv said in one excited breath as she came up behind her and gave her a hug. With tears in her eyes she went to the closet and pulled the gown out.

**

She stood in the back of the church waiting for the music to begin playing. Liv turned back and smiled at her and she smiled back. She stared at the white roses in her hands. She vowed to herself that she would forget about Dominic and give her whole heart to Elijah. She would be the best wife she could be to him.

The music started playing and Liv began walking down the aisle. When Liv had reached the front of the church and taken her place the music became louder in her ears and she stepped out the doors. Everyone turned to stare at her. She stared straight-ahead not looking at anyone except the minister at the front of the church. Her eyes betrayed her though and went to the man standing next to Elijah. Dominic. When she saw him he was staring at her with sadness in his gray eyes. She looked at him and he smiled. She turned her gaze back to the minister and continued the walk. When she got to the front she turned to face Elijah. He lifted her veil up and she saw his eyes glistening with tears of happiness. She gave him a small smile and the minister began his speech.

“Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here in the sight of God, and in the face of this company, to join together this Man and this Woman in holy Matrimony…

She listened to the speech and stared at Elijah, wondered what he was thinking.

“… If any man can show just cause, why they may not lawfully be joined together, let him speak now, or else hereafter for ever hold his peace.”

“I do!” she heard from behind Elijah. It was Dominic. “I love this woman and I know she loves me.”
“Dominic! What on earth are you doing?! Are you out of your mind?” She heard Billy hiss. She watched as Dominic tried to get past Elijah but Billy held him back.
“Billy let me go!”
Elijah stared at her with such sadness in his eyes, “Is it true? Do you love him?”
She looked down at her roses, “Yes.” The tears spilled from her eyes. “I’m so sorry Elijah. I really am.”
Elijah turned from her and ran to the back of the church.
“Elijah!! Wait! Please! Let me explain!”
Elijah ignored her pleas and opened the door to the church and ran out.
Cassie felt Dominic beside her. Everyone stared at them with disbelief written on their faces. She heard Billy mutter, “Well, that went well.”

Liv stepped in front of her, “Everyone if you will just excuse Cassie and Dominic, there has been a misunderstanding. If everyone will just wait right here I’m sure we’ll be able to get it all straightened out and the wedding will continue.” Liv looked back and mouthed “Go!” Cassie and Dominic ran up the aisle and out the door. They walked around the church and found Elijah leaning against a tree in the back smoking a cigarette.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” he muttered.
“I didn’t know how. I wanted to but I just couldn’t seem to bring myself to do it.” She said looking at him. “You hate me don’t you?”
“Hate you? I could never hate you. I love you too much. You should know that.” He dropped the cigarette butt down on the ground.
“I’m so sorry about everything Elijah. I really am. I never meant to hurt you.” She wiped the tears from her eyes. “I love you. I really do. I’m just not in love with you”
“I know. I saw it coming a long while back. I saw the way you and Dominic kept looking at each other. The secret glances between you two.” He pulled another cigarette out and lit it. “I just refused to believe it.” He looked at Cassie and Dominic. “I want you to be happy Cassie. That’s all I want. If you want to go with Dominic instead of me that’s fine. Although, I must admit it does hurt. It hurts like hell, but it’s just the way things are, I guess. Some things just happen and there’s not a damn thing you can do about it.”
“Elijah,” She murmured. Before she could finish she heard him mutter.
“Well you better get in there. Those people are expecting a wedding. You don’t want to disappoint them do you?”
“But Elijah…”
“Go.”
She felt Dominic tugging on her arm. She pulled herself free and went up to Elijah and threw her arms around him.
“Thank you.” She whispered into his ear. “Thank you for being so sweet to me.” She kissed him on the cheek and walked back to Dominic. And together they walked towards the church.

Yep.. that's it.. lol :)
