A thought about Revelation and the End
I was thinking on Revelation since we are studying it in one of my bible studies and I thought of something that may mean the end is nearer than we may think...

All through Revelation, everything seems to point to a single planet (Earth).

We are getting closer and closer to being able to start colonizing other planets. NASA is working to determing radiation on Mars so they have an idea if they can make it habitable. We are also working on the International Space Station which will hold a fairly large number of people (I think).

If humans start spreading out across the galaxy, will Revelation really make much sense? Perhaps, but probably not. And since we know the Bible is all true, that means that everything in Revelation must happen before we can expand into the universe. So that would mean within perhaps 100-200 years, or perhaps less.

The only other possibility I can think of is that anyone who leaves into the galaxy before Revelation will be among those destroyed instead of saved, although that seems a bit strange to me, so it's probably the first option.

So... 100-200 years or less?! We have had discussions and polls on the end and how far away we think it is, but I think many of us may have just given a guess by looking at how messed up the world is, but still thinking in the back of our heads that it will still be a long time from now. If this thought is correct, it really brings home how close we really are to the end.

Please post your thoughts on this topic. I'd like to see what others think of this idea. And ask your preachers/pastors/whatever you call them about this to see their opinions and post them as well.

Finally, as a side note of humor... I hope the Left Behind series is finished before the Rapture or we won't be able to read it all. Of course, we'll have front row seats. :) _

Re: A thought about Revelation and the End
I personally do think it will be within a couple centuries. Of course, it could be 10 seconds from now as well. =p

But I did notice that humans are making progress in genetic engineering a lot faster than I expected. With the completion of DNA mapping a couple months ago, and the recent tests of transfering DNA between cells (although the success rate is horrendously low), it does seem to be a problem.

Put that with these other technological advances (the credit-card like chip in the hand or forehead is of particular concern), and I get worried. All the more reason to go out and spread the gospel, to shatter the misconceptions of the public and bringing people to Christ.

I try not to think about it
I try not to think about when the end is gonna come... because i'm most likely gonna be wrong =)

Only God knows.

So, those are my thoughts... however small they may be =)

Lol, Skapostle. No man can predict the end, but we can make guesses. :)

I agree, Brent, that the genetic stuff is going way too far and will pose many problems very soon. One company has already started working on cloning humans. They have stated that if the US won't allow them to do it here, they will do it in one of the many other countries that will allow it. :(

Besides just the hand chips and such, just using credit cards is bringing the world into a cashless society (credit rather than cash) and will eventually lead to a single form of currency for the entire world. :/

Re: I try not to think about it
Well, I think it will be within the next milenium(probaly sooner), but it could be different. Hey we could have some World War that killes 3/4 the earth's population and blast us back into the stone age.(I hope not though)

Another thing is the world is getting closer to 1 world currency. E: The Euro. Which is prophized in Revalations along with 1 world government and religion (I think I remember that from my Bible Study)

As for colonizing space I dont know but it is a long way off. But that could change with advancements in technology.

Single currency? USD baby!

As for Revelation, I'm not sure if refers to only one world. Remember that John couldn't have imagined there being more than one world, so the visions could have been simplified for his sake. Or maybe he couldn't comprehend what hs saw, so he said 'world.' John was only human after all! Or maybe there were translation errors?

Well...you should remember that the Bible is inspired by God , so everything that is written in there is meant to be there. Hmm...ok. :/

Revelation
I agree with you that the Bible is all true, but I also think that the Bible is open to interpretation. I'm not 100%sure, but i remember hearing from my religion teacher that Revelations was written by a bunch of oppressed Jews and the message was about Romans? Anyhoo, you might think I'm totally messed up concerning the understanding of the Bible, but I'm pretty sure ppl won't be living outside of Earth for a VERY long time!

Revelation
The thing you have to remember about the colonizing space... the book of Revelation has soooooo many figurative and metaphorical things, its extremely hard to understand. Some of the things in Revelation could mean almost anything.
