AOL Broadband connection
Hi,
I use AOL Broadband and have recently experienced problems connecting - 'Host File Lookup failed'. Any ideas?

I also recently removed McAfee Firewall and ensured that all files, etc were removed.

Any help would be very much appreciated as AOL have no idea.

Cheers

Re: AOL Broadband connection
Hard one this, without looking at the PC itself.

It could be quite a number of reasons, and even if you do know where to start looking it could take quite a while to identify the real problem.

It's probably beyond the scope of this board to be able to fix this one for you, I'm afraid.

host lookup failed
there are lots of things that can cause the host lookup failed. but this fix's 99% of them......

just follow the instructions below

DNR DUN
""""""""""""""
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
Remove DUN, dont restart

Refresh Networks
"""""""""""""""""""""
Remove all from networks (in control panel) apart from ethernets, dont restart

Remove Winsock2
"""""""""""""""""""""
Go back onto the desktop
Start -> Run
type in regedit, press ok

On the left handside.
Click on the plus sign beside Hkey Local Machine
Click on the plus sign beside System
Click on the plus sign beside Current Control Set
Click on the plus sign beside Services

You will see Winsock2
highlight that and press delete on the keyboard
Prompt, press yes.

Close that screen off.

Open AOL
then restart pc when prompted to.

I am experiencing a similar problem , but with XP sp1.
it seems to cause this problem after I try and network with my work laptop.
