Alyson Danvers - Seventh Year
Name: Alyson Danvers (Ali)
Age: 17
Year: 7th
House: Gryffindor
Other: Dueler
Physical Description: Ali is quite short for her age, standing at 5' 4". she has an average build and never worries about her figure - besides, she enjoys both life and food too much to ever consider dieting. Her hair is shoulder length and mid-Brown, but she added mahogany (reddish) streaks over the holidays and she has browny-hazel eyes that seem to light up when she gets excited.
Personality: Ali tends to be a straightforward person - she doesn't like worrying about what people think of her, and has a 'what you see is what you get' attitude. That does not mean that this Gryffindor is in everyones face, and likes to be the centre of attention. On the contrary, she's rather observant and usually prefers to watch rather than taking centre stage...but she refuses to hide her feelings and beliefs just to avoid confrontation.
Ali has quite a lot of energy and enthusiasm for life - she enjoys practical lessons the most, especially charms, DADA...and even Potions. If it's hands on, she loves it. It's one of the reasons why she also enjoys flying and quidditch - she finds darting through the air on a broom both exhillerating and freeing. The downside to her energy is that it can make her restless at times, and can get her into trouble when coupled with her natural curiosity.
Despite being friendly and quite outgoing, Ali can be slightly distrustful of strangers at first - but when she gets to know people, she becomes more at ease and often quite chatty. There is one thing that Ali is reluctant to speak about, and that's her father. Ali never knew her father, and it's a rather sore point for her, despite the fact that she's tried hard to put the past behind her. Sometimes, when in a quite contemplative mood, Ali will let herself wonder who her father is, and what life would have been like had he stayed around...but otherwise, she prefers to simply be glad of the family that she does have.
In true Gryffindor style, Ali is quick to defend the people close to her - be it friend or family...sometimes she'll even defend people she dislikes simply because she knows it's the right thing to do....but she expects her loyalty to be repaid in turn, and if crossed she will get angry and sharp tongued.
Likes: practical lessons, flying, cards, having a laugh
Dislikes: bullies, being looked down on, talking about the past, the term 'Mudblood', being used.
Family/History: Initially Ali was an only child with only one parent - what she learned from her mother (Katie Jones, Jones being her maiden name) was that they'd been together for a few months...but her father left when he found out that she was pregnant. Distraught, Katie turned to her parents, who took her back into their home. A year after having Ali, Katie was determined to get her life back on track...she got a part time job to earn her keep, whilst her parents baby-sat the infant, then when Ali was old enough to go to school Katie took on a full time job. Not too long after, Katie was able to afford to move out, although to a small place not too far from her parents. Katie has never told Ali the name of her biological father, nor does she talk about what he was like - she says the past should stay in the past, and Ali tends to agree with this. Her mothers strength has inspired Ali to be strong in her own life, to take charge and never give in...although, a lot of the time she comes across as simply being annoyingly stubborn.
Things changed after Ali's 7th birthday...Katie met a man, Jeremy Danvers, much to little Ali's distress. She was unused to having to share her mother, and thought that maybe her mother was going to leave just like her father did. The child tried everything she could to drive this man away...and in fact, this is where the first hints of magic came in. Whenever Ali was feeling angry or sad, odd things would happen....but after a lot of patience and understanding on both the adults part, things settled down. Eventually Katie married Jeremy, and he and his 4 year old daughter became part of the family.
The new family situation was hard for Ali to deal with, but she came to love her extended family as if they were blood-kin. She gets on well with her step-sister, and was delighted when she gained a baby-brother....she feels very protective of them both.
Life took a strange turn when Ali hit 11 - she recieved an odd letter from a school in Scotland, claiming that she was in fact a witch. It took a visit from a strange, strict old woman named Mrs McGonagall to convince the family that this was not a hoax. At first, Ali hated the idea - she was scared that her family would all turn from her....but they didn't. The fact that they all supported her brought Ali even closer to her family.
Life at Hogwarts was daunting to Ali at first, and she missed her family a great deal...but when lessons became more practical and friendships developed, Ali began to settle into her new life with a great enthusiasm. Now, six years on, Ali has settled into life as a witch - like her best friend Lily, she is Muggle born (or so she believes) and so has a good understanding of both worlds, and can live in both communities comfortably.
