Are you happy with ezboard?
I've visited quite a few forums, and to me the best software seems to be vBulletin. I found ezboard by accident once, and decided to set up my site around it - it's cheap for Gold membership and easy to use. You don't have to be able to run mySQL or PHP on your server (in fact you don't even need your own server).
Don't like the fact that your post-count & sig are static, and don't reflect your count now, but other than that I don't have any major moans.
Not over impressed with ezboard, we also use a snitz based forum, which are far more powerful, but as you say - EzBoard have to be the easiest to set up.
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
Emmm - Hi Dark Dwarf!!
Apparently there is going to be another big upgrade tonight - I have no idea what this means - I'm frightened - oh yeah - remember the last one. Buthey - at least they posted inside everyone's banners what is up and what to expect - I quiver in anticipation!
I have spent so much time dinkin' with my style sheets and everything else that I am reticent to go anywhere else. The past week has been OK board wise - guess I'll be here for quite a while. But as for leaping and screaming in anticipation of this new upgrade - naw - don't think so...
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
This is the new version release, scary stuff !! The master account thing they've introduced sounds like a really good idea. Gonna look into it all tonight - I'll let you know !!
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
Yeah, but the new colors stink.
I use Proboards, if anyone wants to see how it looks like go to: hsu.proboards2.com , it has many more features and looks much more professional. (and it's free as ezboard with non-ads payments if you wish)
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
IkonBoard. Free and unbeleavibly powerful but also difficult to use. There are also lots of mods out there and tech support seems quite good for free software.
"In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court, for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles Underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire.... The A-team."
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
ezboard rules!! Some are better but there over all look Sucks especially with proboards.i have looked at tons of other but almost nothing beats ezboard
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
I am looking for fellow webmasters that are into pc tech stuff and have a community going and would like to get off of ezboard. I wanna get a couple of communities together to form one big one. Basically what I have to offer is my site is on a dedicated server that I own. It wouldn't cost anything to combine the sites and host them, no popup ads, no membership fees. Alot of features with forums that are powered by vbulletin and once the next release of vbulletin comes out and I do the upgrade that is when I am going to release the couple of other features I am sitting on until then, one of the features being a webmail interface for all members to be able to check their email from any server anywhere in the world. If anyone would be interested you can contact me through my site which is at www.pctechtalk.com
I found ezboard more user-friendly in terms of memberships. Just get a global membership and you're free to wander all over ezboards. No need to re-signup again and again, just like on Yabb or Pro-boards.
Plus, it is easy to configure, personalize and use.
The only thing I don't want is that the banners are bigger than the board itself. You will be really annoyed if an ezboard isn't gold! Other than that, it is way cool for me!
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
Guys, Proboards, Hyperboards, and Conforums use YaBB software.
Best Boards is like EZBoard but is based in the UK. I see Best Boards better than EZBoard because the free boards do not have as large advertisements. Best Boards also has a global logon, unlike Invisionfree and Proboards/Hyperboards/Conforums.
Bulletin Boards that are uploaded on personal webspace or are on corporate web sites are NOT meant to have a global logon.
Invision free uses IBBoard.
Yabb, Ikonboard, and several other boards are CGI Upload Boards.
PHPBB, Invision Board, YaBBSE, and several others are PHP/MySQL Upload boards.
You have to pay money to download a VBulletin, which is also a PHP Board.
Re: Are you happy with ezboard?
My favorites are EzBoards for running your own board! Easy set-up and requires nothing on the end of a server, plus it give my users functionability across all my boards through global accounts!
I have a board that I visit that is a YaBB board. Nice!!! He also has a dedicated IT person running the boards though. But he has never had the boards crash!
As for VBulliten (sp?) they are nice, but most feel clunky and just slapped together, plus the cost is huge at first for them!
