Battery discharge at idle
Has anyone come up with a good fix for Mopars miserable alternator that won't charge at idle and causes headlights to dim, turnsignals to slow way down, radios to fade out?

I have checked all the grounds on my 72 RR because I heard that might help. I am thinking about putting a grounding strap from the engine/frame/body to ensure it is sound. But, I doubt this will really help.

I approached a mechanic about it and he just cranked up my idle rpm. This won't work because it won't pass emissions inspection this way. And, it really didn't help much.

Any ideas?

Re: Battery discharge at idle
here's what i did

Find a REAL old-time auto electrical shop. No chain rebuilds here. No NAPA,etc. when you find the right place ask them to build the meanest alt they can w/ your case. Square backs and later models put out more altough they may be a PITA to mount. anyway get the premo unit built and run a heavy wire from it to the battery. you might also bypass the amp gauge as I think most old mopes runa ll the power through there as well as the bulkhead connector which just plain sucks.
What pulleys are you running? This will be a factor. Is fan belt tight?
