Blake's Seven
Despite the appalling production values, frightfully middle-class voices and pretty pathetic scripts this was a great show (I'm pretty sure the Farscape writers know it well - there are some uncanny resemblances between the dreaded Servalan and their latest peacekeeper uber-boss whose name I have just forgotten.) with a good premise.

I've been wanting to write a Jenna/Cally fic for ages but there's only RalSt and me who remember the show. I know what you mean about Avon/Cally - that was implied quite often. Avon was a good character and got the best lines.

I liked Zen then you know how I feel about talking computers :p

Re: Blake's Seven (Terry Nation is God!)
Mm Blakes Seven loved it!

When I was a kid, used to scare me shitless(More than the Daleks, or the Cybermen ever did), along with the BBC's version of Day of the Triffids, and Threads!:eek

At the beginning, I thought it was Blake and Cally, but after Blake was gone, Kerr Avon took his rightful place as the leader of the group, I always thought it was Avon/Servarlan, (I meet Jacqueline Pierce once, one wired lady).

Though I liked Zen, I much prefered Orac.

Michael

PS Am I imagining it, or have suddenly found myself not on The Darkside anymore, but on One of the Cult message boards on BBCi?

Re: Doctor Who - scariest?
Doctor Who scared me more than Blake's Seven but I was younger when I watched it and it had the scarier music.

My scariest Doctor Who memory was of a story that contained a concept that I always find horrifying. The 'becoming what you fear' concept. It's a very old ep from the black and white days. Set in a jungle, ( a very claustrophobic studio jungle), the monster of the week was something that closely resembled the washers from an automated carwash - big hairy cylinders - but the horrifying part was that if these things came into contact with your skin then you started to become one. Cue horrid shots of terrified expendable characters with white fur starting to grow on their arms and faces, knowing what was going to happen to them. The memory makes me shudder now.

I liked Blake's Seven for other shallow reasons wholly unconnected with fear, namely having two rather good looking women running about with guns. ;) (Plus the sexy concept of the Liberator and Zen)

Caro.

PS: You can discuss any show you like on this board as long as due respect for T/7 is shown. There isn't enough traffic here for me to worry about off-topic posts.

Re: Doctor Who - scariest?
:eek I think the episode you are talking about is Bill Hartnell story (season two), I'll have to ask my mate who works in the who shop.

Doctor Who did scare me a bit Watching Genesis of the Daleks, when are a little kid, was pretty disturbing), but not as much as Blakes Seven.

The Episode where Cally and Avon, go their minds sucked into that brain creature, was pretty freaky.

Rach you mentioned on one of the other topic, about, what was it moon cops?

Or something like that. It used to be on BBC after the adventure Game (remember that?).

Oh that reminds me, talking about disturbing stuff, have you guys seen the Internet 15 (UK) trailer for Star Trek Nemesis?

PS As we can discuss any show, who watched the Premiership last night? (only kidding!;) )

Re: Doctor Who - scariest?
I can't remember ever being scared by either Doctor Who or Blake's Seven, but I did ball my eyes out when that young male companion of the Doctor's (Alric or Oldric or something) was killed by the cybermen.

And I had to watch Star Trek: Wrath of Khan, three times before I could see the end without crying - I think sci-fi has a weird affect on my tear ducts. :(

Stop Crying your heart out.
Do you still weep at films, as you better not go & see Nemesis, as there is apperently, a major death (if antone staeside reads this & seen the film, please don't be a gimp & tell me!
:(

Michael.

Ps The chractures name who died was Adric, who was a companion to the fifth Doctor, and he died in the Cyber-story Earthshock.

Re: Earthshock!

The thing that had me scared actually was Twin Peaks *g* I wasn't much into scifi early on (altho I did watch the X-files on occasion)

We never got much of those typical british scifi series on telly here. I don't recall anyone ever attempting to make a *dutch* scifi show...I don't think I wanna see if anyone makes an attempt because I'm sure it'll be horrible lol.

Re: my tuppence...
I've got Blake's Seven on tape somewhere... the steely eyed acting, dodgy scenery teleportation wobble are something you have to see to believe...but it was still fabulous (especially when the got rid of Blake and we had more Avon, who we all knew was the absolute best).

You should also try Sapphire and Steel ... kind of spooky and baffling. It just had something that made it special, plus I had a crush on David McCullum when I was young :)

As for Sophie Aldred, she and Elizabeth Sladen were simply the best.

All of which I've probably said before.

So Blue, to the Dutch make a lot of television programs? Anything we might have seen?

Back to the Original Topic!
Back to the Original Topic, I hear that they are going to remake it (Blakes Seven that is). Paul Darrow bought the rights off the Nation Estate.

Rach that can be our Clacton Mission.

Where on earth did you hear that?!? That would be great as long as the dialogue was rewritten - preferably by us!

Re: Back to the Original Topic!
Actualy in the Radio Times there was a interview with Paul 'Bing Bong Avon' Darrow about it!

Also my friend who owns the Doctor Who Shop in West Ham (I am not getting paid for the plug!), was bemoaning the fact that Auntie beeb would bring back Blake Seven, but not Doctor Who.

I did point out, that one of the reason the the beeb wont bring Who back, is that they can repackage the existing material in infinite number of way, & still get smeg heads like me to buy it!!

Blakes Seven Writers
Andy Pixel Sci-fi guru, and moderator of the BBCi cult boards, posted a low down on the probable writers for the new version of B7. They include Ben Arronovich-Doctor Who (Remberance of the Daleks, & Battlefield), Paul Cornell-Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angle, Bernice Summerfield (the chracture that Lara Croft is based on), Lance Parkins-Doctor Who & Faction Paradox, & Russel T Davis-Doctor Who, Dark Season, Centuary Falls & of course the Brilliant Queer as Folk.

Rachel you know I told you that Paul Darrow was in the latest Bond film, well he is apperently the Doctor Bond attacks, when he escapes SIS field hospital.

Hip, hip, hoorah!

Hip, hip, hoorah!

Hip, hip, hoorah!

I feeling like getting my Blakes 7 tapes out of the loft and having a look see. I wonder who they'll get to play the parts, and whether they'll do the sensible thing and make the whole show revolve around Avon, not Blake?

I just wish someone would decide to remake Saphirre and Steel
