We are STILL waiting for a response from CAMS National Office.

Re: Cameras
Mounting our camers somewhere low and safe, with a remote lens thingo would have to be the best way of doing it to reduce vibration too. Is there some kind of change to the old approval by the chief scrutineer?
Re: Cameras
Doggo, the problem with the old system was that different scrutineers had different standards. At the last Bathurst 1000, all of the Qld Group N competitors had to remove their in-car cameras because the NSW scrutineers wouldn't accept the brackets/mounts which had been passed by Qld scrutineers.
So, the Qld MRAP wrote to CAMS National office requesting a definitive ruling/standard. Since then, nothing has happened.

I have installed a tripod swivel mechanism mounted on a fabricated base attached to the horizontal bar behind me. This will allow a camera to be mounted on the screw in fitting.
The mount is attached with two steel hose clamps on a rubber base between the mount and the bar. The camera has a rubber jacket with two HD cable ties wrapped around it, reinforcing the standard screw-in mount.
I will ask to use it this weekend at Wakefield Park. If they say NO, then no big deal.
Secondly, I have search for a remote (pencil-type) lens for some time without success (disregarding expensive US-based systems). Does anyone know where you can buy these remote lenses?
Thanks,

Re: Cameras
I have a friend who uses "lipstick" cameras with a Sony Mini DV camera for mountain biking and jet skiing. He suggested these two sites. The first one looks the best. Hopefully its not the expensive US-based stuff you've already talked about.

You can also try www.allthings.com.au/ as they have a reasonable range at reasonable prices. You will probably want to give them a call to make sure that the lense you buy is the right one for your camera.
Checked 'em out and whilst the stuff there looks good I was so impressed with the quality from my Panasonic miniDV that I think I will just run with that setupm for the foreseeable future.

In the UK the RAC MSA (Cams equivilent) wants two seperate and independent mounting systems. which is basically consistant with what you have here. I will bet that when Cams get back to you David they will use something that another FIA body has adapted (...with stand a force of XX Nm and be suplemented by a secondary restraint...)
