Can we defeat Satan because we're Christians? Heh... I don't think so! What? Do you think I'm out of my mind to say that we can't defeat Satan? Well, let us see... When Jesus was tempted by Satan, did He ever renounce or say evil of Satan? Or did He instead choose to read Scripture (God's Truth) to Satan instead? God's Word can defeat Satan, we cannot. In Jude 1:9 (NIV), it says "But even the archangel Michael, when he was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to bring a slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!" Even the archangel Michael will not face Satan. Even he turns to God to defeat Satan. If both Jesus and the archangel, Michael, won't fight Satan one-on-one, do we, as humans, stand a chance without seeking God's authority over Satan? Of course not. So be sure not to become conceited in your faith. Such conceit opens a path for Satan to enter you.

Re: Can we defeat Satan because we're Christians?
Just to clarrify:
It's God (the Father) who has the power to defeat Satin. By using the authority given to us by God, through the Holy Sprit because of our faith, we can (indirectly) defeat Satin. Take, for example, a busy street. When a group of people wishes to cross, a traffic gaurd (assuming one is nearby) will walk out with his stop sign, effectively halting the traffic. Does he literally, by his own power, stop the cars? No. No human can physically stop a car going more than a couple mph. But the drivers of the cars recognize the authority of the traffic gaurd, with the power of the police department behind him, and so they stop. That is how it is with Christians. We can defeat Satin by using the authority given to us by God, backed by his power. (Just to clarrify further: when I type "Christians," I refer to the ones who truly are serving God, not themselves.) |
