Children's Books? I would like to collect classic children's story books for my hope chest. Do y'all know of any good ones? So far,I have thought of the 'Winnie-the-Pooh' stories by A.A. Milne & Beatrix Potter's stories. My little brothers and sisters love 'Pooh'.Especially Sarah(who is four),she is definitely a 'Pooh baby'. Another good book for little ones is 'A Child's Garden of Verses' by Robert Louis Stevenson.Although,I have never seen an original copy of this book. Any other suggestions? In Christ Emma |

Re: Children's Books?
Oh, I love Pooh and Beatrix Potter!
I want those too I would very highly recommend God's Little Wisdom Book For Girls, by Elizabeth George. It goes through and gives practical everyday applications for Proverbs 31. God's Little Wisdom Book For Boys by Jim and Elizabeth George is also very good. It gives practical everyday applications for various verses in Proverbs. The illustrations are gorgeously done, and the lessons are excellent. I'm getting one of each for my kids whenever I get my hope chest Blessings, Deb Edited by: singergirl01 at: 2/1/03 6:52:21 pm |

Children's Books I'm adding Children's books to my hope chest too, as I find them. I found, at Wal-Mart, a compilation of the 3 original "Dick & Jane" readers, in a hardcover book. I was so excited. It's such a neat book, and the pictures are adorable! I hope, someday, I'll be able to use it to help my children learn to read. You ladies have some great suggestions here! Thank you for posting them!! Blessings! Emilee Elizabeth For thou art my hope, O LORD GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. Psalm 71:5 Edited by: Emilee Elizabeth at: 2/2/03 7:47:30 pm |

Re: Children's Books? Hi Emma! If you go to Sonlight's website www.sonlight.com you will find many fantastic books listed in their curriculum catalog. I don't know how familiar you are with it, but it's the curriculum that I used with my children and still supplement with their choice of books, because they are fantastic! It is based on good literature, and I've totally fell in love with their books. Growing up, I had no idea there were so many that I missed out on. Hope this helps some Theresa

Re: Children's Books? Have any of y'all heard of the Rare Collector's Series from Lamplighter Publishing ? They reprint rare old children's literature ('anything over seventy-five years old').My family has three of them ('Christie's Old Organ','Joel,a Boy of Galilee' and 'Mary Jones & Her Bible').I have read one other ('The Basket of Flowers').These are very godly books.Though these books are intended for younger children I enjoyed them a lot. These would be good books to collect for the hope chest. In Christ, Emma

Re: Children's Books? Oh yes! I love Lamplighter books! We are trying to collect all of them! Well, I don't think we are trying to, but we are! lol They are just sooo good! They really are good for all ages. They are actually making some of them into picture books for children. They did that with "The Hedge of Thorns". It is very good! ~*~Shannon~*~ ![]() |

Re: Children's Books? I love the "Lamplighter" books, but unfourtunatly here in Canada, they're quite expensive Has anyone ever heard of the "Miller Series" they have several Miller books out, and they are really good! They are written by Mennonites and are very wholesome well-written books. We own the entire series, we bought the last one last year. We all love them, even though my youngest sibling is 13! They are a great book! ~Jenny |
