I love this poem by the Victorian poet Alfred Tennyson. He is one of my favourite poets. In Christ, Emma Sunset and evening star And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea. But such a tide as moving seems asleep, Too full for sound and foam, When that which drew out from the boundless deep, Turns again home. Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For though from out our bourne of Time and Place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my Pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. |

Thankyou for sharing this poem, Emma. I like it too, especially the last two lines.
For me, it is so hard to think about dying. I'm young, and old age seems so very far away. But I have been trying to remind myself that I need to be ready NOW to go HOME. If we knew that Jesus were to call us home tomorrow (which is always a possibility!) would we be ready to go? Would we be upset? Would He find us consumed with the cares around us and not looking forward to our real home? If our roots are in heaven, there will be no painful pulling of roots here on earth. Yes, God wants us to enjoy this life that He has given us, but enjoy it from a heaven-bound perspective, and enjoy it for His glory. Atlanta |
