DAC 10
Anyone here want to talk about DAC 10 Basketball? I was hoping there would be more people here...was hoping it would be like the football board, but maybe it will as more people here about this.

DAC-10 previews
If you look at the polls, just scroll down and you can see previews of the schools with returning players and newcomers.

Looks like Jamestown men and Mary women have almost EVERYONE back.

guys, Jamestown is L-O-A-D-E-D!!!! And they are well coached. I'm a little biased, but everyone would have to agree this could be a special team. I personally think the first 7 players (not counting the new players this year) could play with anyone.

If they don't win the Dac10 and contend for a national championship, I'll eat crow!!!

Number 1 ranking in the NAIA.

Dakota State
DSU has a few good guys coming back.

JF Jensen - Good shooter. Led team in scoring last 2 years now, and was 3rd team all conference last year. He sat out a while last year with a bad ankle sprain

Burgraff - pretty good inside scorer, last year found his range with the 3. Very athletic. He can leap...led the team in rebounds last year.

These are observations from the game last night, maybe don't always play like this:

Anthony Scott - Very good shooter coming off the bench. He can jump out of the gym too.

Ian McKeithen - Pretty good player if he slows down a little. He always wants to run with it.

Kyle Konopasak - Very Good Shooter, especially when he is set. He runs the offense pretty well.

Sal Rapheal also played well last night.

The center position looks ok with Nulle and the 6'10" Orion Garo. When Harry Davis gets back, it will make it better too.

The game was against Mt Marty, and they were tied with them til about 4:00 to go in the game. Then Mt Marty took over, but according to the Coaches Poll in the GPAC, Mt Marty is supposed to be the 3rd best team in the GPAC.

It looks like Dakota State is picked last in the conference though, so I don't know.

If this game was a reflection of the season to come, it should be a pretty good season for Dakota State. I'd say middle of the pack. But you never know...it's only one game.

About time someone started up a DAC-10 b-ball section.

I think this will end up being the most competitive conference the DAC-10 has ever had. The Jamestown men are absolutely loaded, obviously, as they are pre-season ranked #1. Wilkens and Jones are studs, Sufi and Fragela are solid. They have a good strong post in Holmstadt.

Minot State got some good transfers (Brandt and Loda) and high school signings, so they will be tough as well.

Black Hills is always good. Their posts are beasts, and they have probably some of the best athletes at the guard position.

Mary has a whole new team, but had a great recruiting season and will be right there come tournament time. They picked up a whole new back-court that can shoot.

Huron returns some dudes, I haven't heard too much about their new kids.

I saw Dickinson play at the Jamboree and are a lot more athletic and they have the best shooter in the conference in Kasey Ulin. He has an unbelievable stroke and will pull from anywhere. Jake Schmitz looks like he will start as a freshman.

I don't know too much about Valley, but I'm sure they will be competitive. I heard Dak St, Mayville and Tech will be down, but Tech beat Rocky Mt. by 19 so who knows?

As far as the girls, Mary is stacked once again. Only losing one starter and picking up two D-II transfers. Leer is the best shooter in the conference and Jess Zundel almost averaged a double-double last year. The pick up of Andrea Ronderos will be the key to their success this year.

I don't know too much about the girls side of things except that Dickinson will be good again this year. Minot picked up some good players as well. And Tech is always tough to beat.

Should be a fun season to watch!

Valley's Team
Valley should have a solid year. They brought in some height that will hopefully be around after the semester break. The last two years, their centers have left at the semester. They big addition is Ty Terry though. He originally signed to play at DI University of Texas-San Antonio(?) then transfered to NDSU for the past two years and transferred back to Valley, I think for more playing time. Some of the good shooters are back, so expect DeHaan to run and gun but not as much.

WOW
Mary Just beat UND by 32, might be a dangerous team this season that could sneak up on Jamestown and Minot

no doubt
That game was over half-way through the first half. Kudos to Mary for dominating the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. UND has some Juco turds on that squad.

UND losing
If I remember correctly, UND got beat by Minot State last year, which in the end didn't necessarily mean Minot was the best team in the conference. It looks like Mary must have had some post-UND hangover, because they went and lost to MSU-Northern by about 11, a team Dickinson has beaten twice already this year.

Dickinson's new coach brought some very talented players with him from out west. I can't wait until the Milanovich tourney when I can see them in person for the first time and watch Jamestown too. They will be each playing a couple of the Montana schools Thanksgiving weekend.

huh?
First off all UND lost to Minot two years ago. And that was with Baker, Risk and another 3rd Minot guy reffing. Any idea why Minot shot 56 free throws that game?

2nd, how would you respond as a player just beating UND by 32 and then getting in a bus the next morning to drive 14 hours to Bumf--k Montana? You don't think a letdown was expected? I'm actually surprised they kept it that close.

Anyone who compares teams based on common oppenents is an idiot. Oh Dicky beat MSU-N, and Mary lost, so Dicky should be Mary. What bull. If Dicky gets beat by UND, do you go saying that Mary will automatically beat the Hawks?

Anyone knows that teams match up differently against each other. Some are more athletic, some are stronger, some are smarter players. There are other factors like injuries, sickness, bus lag, etc. And then there are nights when a team plays lights-out, like Mary did with UND.

This is by far the best the DAC-10 has ever been. JC is the cream of the crop.... Minot, BHSU, Huron and especially Dickinson will be tough. I saw Dicky at the jamboree and said they were the sleeper of the conference. Then you have teams like VCSU that is talented and plays hard, Mayville where noone wants to play, and SD Tech where you have those engineering students and that tough high-flex/backcut offense they run.

The only thing you say is that this conference will be totally unpredictable the whole season. 1 through 10, anyone can beat anyone on any given night. And it will be fun to watch.

how many consecutive losses is it gonna take before people get off the bhsu bandwagon. they should be very tough this year, but so far they have not shown up at all. 5 straight losses to average NAIA teams. I know that everyone probably thinks that BH is the team to beat out here in the hills, but I dare anyone to come and play at Tech's gym and say that they had an easy game. Just ask Jamestown. The same Jamestown team that is number 1 in the nation this year lost at Tech last year and we didn't even make the playoffs last year. Tech is by far one of the most improved teams in the conference this year and come January 3rd, we'll see who the better team in the hills is.

Impressions of JC and DiSU
I got to see Jamestown and Dickinson State play Saturday night at the Milanovich Classic.

Jamestown won an ugly one but showed that a good team that plays with poise can win on a night when things are going right. I think Brad Huse is one of the top coaches in the DAC-10. People think all he has to do is roll the ball out, but he has to do some work on nights when the ball isn't dropping.

As for DSU, they showed that they can get out a defend and create turnovers when the 3's aren't falling. So far this season, DSU was just outscoring teams but showed they can do more than run and gun - had to D it up to pick up an "ugly" win on Saturday. Coach Berry looks to have brought some outstanding athletes with him and the Blue Hawks may be a sleeper this year.

The conference schedule starts Thursday - Friday - Saturday and it could be an interesting year. Jamestown should be the cream of the crop but it will be interesting to see if they can repeat last year's performance and who will represent the DAC-10 at nationals. A few teams have the potential to jump up, but we'll have to see who's "potential" turns into W's.

Anyone no what they are talking about?
Does anyone no what they are talking about? Jamestown sucks. Valley City is the team to beat this year. Tyrone Terry is the real deal and he will light up everyone. For those of you that think that Brad Huse is the top coach in the league, you are wrong cuz Adam DeHaan is the best in the league and can beat anyone. Anymore questions just ask and I will tell you the real answers?

What does everyone think about the shooting guard for VCSU, Garth McFadden? Is he the real deal or what?

wow
What a bold statement from a fan of a 3-4 team. A team that beat that powerhouse Trinity Bible and lost to a very sub-par Morris team. I may not "no" what I'm talking about, but I do "know" what I'm talking about. Hey, I dislike JC just as much as the next DAC10 fan, but 34-2 over the two past conference seasons is impossible to argue with. With all due respect to DeHaan, who is a great coach, Brad Huse is the best coach in the league, hands down. You may think JC sucks, but guess what the nation disagrees with you. Final 8 appearance last year, losing by 2 and returning everyone. That's why they are #1.

If you want to pick a team over JC, fine, but pick Minot, pick Dicky, even pick Huron or Mary, but Valley? Be serious. Terry is a good player but it's not like he's god -- he's only averaging 13.9 pts per game. That's not exactly tearing it up. I'm sorry to inform you but for how tough the conference is -- JC, Minot, Dickinson, Huron, Mary and Black Hills (who are 1-7 right now but will win every home conference game because they have the refs in their back pocket)... I'm sorry but your team looks middle of the pack this year.

"HUH?"
What are you talking about? They have just found a player that can add a spark for them. Jon Lindahl is going to take this league by surprise and no one will be able to stop the Vikings. Tyrone Terry is just about fully recovered from an ankle sprain and he will be the leagues MVP. Just watch the Vikings this year. Black Hills Sucks this year and you can't deny that. I will give it to you though that Brad Huse is an exceptional coach, but I can tell you haven't been around Adam DeHaan before though, because he is an excellent coach and person.

Hey, I'm not trying to put DeHaan down. I just said he was a great coach. And yes I have met him and talked to him numerous times so I do know he's a great guy. I'm just trying to tell it like I see it. I've seen 7 of the 10 teams play, and I'm telling you, the league is just too damn good. If VC finishes in the top 4, DeHaan gets my vote for coach of the year.

Conference play opens...
Conference play starts this weekend...are the Jamestown men unbeatable...are the Mary woman on the way to another national title...will the BHSU men pull out of an early season funk...can the Dickinson State men keep scoring 100 pts a game...how good will the DiSU women be without All American Stacie Schorsch...how much will Jeff Brandt help Minot State...what will Mayville do without Travis Lindgren...will the Mary men ever do anything in the post season???

What do you think about these and many other topics as the conference schedule tips-off?
