It is impossible to count the number of angels (Revelation 5:11; Hebrews 12:22; Daniel 7:10) and the fallen angels were apparently a third of all these (Revelation 12:4,9). According to Joanes Weirus in "De praetistigiis" published in 1568, there are 7,451,926 demons, organized in 111 legions of 6,666 demons and ruled by 72 princes of demons. Fromenteau in “Le cabinet du Roy de France“ (1581) is very close to that number. An inventory supposedly made by sorcecers has yielded 7,409,127 demons and 72 princes. According to Wier in “Pseudomania daemonum” there are 6 legions of 66 cohorts each, divided into 666 companies of 6,666 individuals which comes to 1,758,640,176 demons. They are governed by an Emperor, 7 kings, 23 Dukes, 13 Marquees, 10 Counts and 11 Presidents. Last but not least, a popular method of calculation is to multiply the number of Pythagorus by 6, i.e 1234321 x 6 = 7,405,926 demons, a number very close to Wier and Fromenteau’s conclusions. =^..^= |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia That is an very large list. Whoa... How long did it take you to put that list together? Reznor "The only thing I fear, is not being worthy of my sufferings." (Viktor Frankl) |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia The list was fairly easy but for the Dukante bit, that took a bit of digging to find. All in all a few days for the others as I have most of the books and about a week of hunting on the Dukante and a few days of work with the French lists. I have a similiar one started for an angelic heirarchy. But that is going to take a lot longer as it seems to be rather a mess from one faith or concept of angelos to another. =^..^= |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia Marquise, you must have quite the library then. I have to admit, the list appears to be quite thorough. I can see how the angelic list would be difficult... how is it coming? Did you not find a lot of conflicts between faiths and concepts with the daemon list? Reznor |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia It would depend upon where you search for Daemonic Tales, I believe. There are countless many afterall, and some tend to conflict in at least some various minor points.. at least in my view. Also, it should be noted that many Daemons/Archdaemons {and Angels/Archangels, for that matter} have also been recorded as being ancient Pagan Gods/Spirits in other times. Things come to be a bit complicated at this point of knowledge. *Chuckles* There tends to be no definite answer- only *many* answers. "'What has a Daemon to fear of Hell?' asked Drackusis of the Priest..." |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia Yes, I have quite a lot of books, the hubby is bequeathing me an entire room for my library soon. Basically he is scared the weight of my shelves and stacks is going to collapse the floor in our bedroom. The main problem with the angel lists is in the Hebrew. I have the different orders and levels established and a line up of the names of certain key ones that subscribe to each - yet from one author or scribe to the next the names begin changing. I am not good enough with the Hebrew as to determine if the changes are basica spelling or truly different people. =^..^= |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia Drackusis, I would figure that it would be difficult to take in and assess all of the stories and information of they are conflicting. Marquise I understand about the hebrew. I was learning hebrew for awhile, and that gets extremely complicated. I struggled with the different letters, where some of them look quite similar. Reznor |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia Marquise, would I be correct in saying that if I took all of those names and began researching each one, that I could append more definition and meaning to each one? What I am thinking of doing is taking your long, incredibly thorough list and attaching stories/meanings/definitions to them kind of like... a dictionary. I guess my question is, have you seen information, or research material on all or most of these names on the internet? Reznor P.S. Thank you very much for posting these name lists... |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia Yes, there is information available on the internet for most if not all of the names. Some as you will find were listed by writers as male and then again as female. Like Leviathin, she has been called a prince, the Chaos Dragon and a woman. Then you will find some who consider some to be merely different names for others that weredeified, like Naamath was once thought to be a substitute for Kali. If you would like I can start fleshing in a bit of information on each as well, instead of simply listing names? =^..^= |

Re: Demons Encyclopedia
*jumps in place with joy* that would be really cool...
I can start creating my reference dictionary and piece in your information along with what I find on the internet. That would be really awesome Marquise... Thank you. Reznor |
