Direct drives
I have been told that there were several years the 36 tri cabin was available with direct drives
and not V drives, that the engines were moved amid ship to accomodate this. Does anyone
know what years they were available? Also if Mercruisers were available with the direct drives.
I am searching for a 36 tri cabin with direct drive Mercruisers and am trying to find out what
years to concentrate my search on.
I think the years with direct drives were 78-87, however I am not positive.

Hope this helps
My "77" has direct drives. I believe this was the first year they came out. I looked at a "76" and it had the v-drives. I wanted the direct drives because I heard the
v-drives, of that era, were troublesome.
Re: Direct Drive
Direct drives were introduced begining in 76.
Some 76 boats still came with V's as this was the transition
year.
My friend has a 76 with straight drives powered by
Chrysler 400's, 300 HP.
I have a 75 with V's powered by Chrysler 440's, 330 HP.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as the V's are well maintained they are just about bulletproof.
