Does T/7 get any respect?
Have we gotten any respectable reviews for our fan fiction? Is it inconceivable to people who are Mulgrew fans, and therefore J/7ers by loyalty? Is our fan fiction of a lesser quality in all honesty? I just wonder... :\

J/7 is T alternate PTB.
Ironically the reaction J/7 gets from TPTB is the reaction we tend to get from them. The only thing it has to do with us is the fact we decided not to follow the crowd.

Not respect, exactly...
My experiences have been mostly on the Alt Quad board, which I'm sure is more liberal than most. However, even there there's a certain kind of snobbery. Many J/7 fans seem to think that theirs is the 'true' pairing, forgetting that, in the eyes of TPTB, J/7 is far from canon. Kind of the way I've seen P/Ters treat K/Ters and C/Ters, way back when I was a het shipper. After hearing some people refer to J/7 as an actual fact and T/7 as inarguably *false,* I was amazed to hear us described as 'the aggresive ones.' We are, as halfofone said, tolerated. However, I don't think that this takes away from the quality of our fanfiction. J/7 has more brilliant stories than T/7, just because it has many more stories, period. All fandoms have good authors and bad authors, and so far I've found more good than bad here. <g>

I saw that too
Hi Meredith,

I couldn't believe it when I heard J/7ers say it's a fact now because they point out that even straight people see it. But it's only after they have been repeatedly exposed to posts by J/7ers and have had it "pointed out to them" in countless discussions. Or straight friends get pointed in the direction. I have never seen any fan just spontaneously home in on the subtext. I only say one guy on the trekbbs.

I too saw the post where someone said T/7ers are aggressive. OY! HAve you been to the AQ message board lately. I'm being pounded on by people just because I say that certain methods of speculating about a celebrities sexuality can be disrepectful. I put in all these clauses and conditions under which it can be, then only to be questioned why speculation is disrepectful when we do it all the time which was not my point at all. :eek These people are J/7ers and they say we're aggressive. I've had comments that I was naive, pedestal worshipping and so forth. I'm not going back there anymore until the thread dies, I've said my peace! >:

I do believe we are merely tolerated. I try to be open minded, read a little bit of J/7, J/T here and there, but I wonder why people have to be so adamantly disregarding of others. I'm glad I'm part of a faction of rather nice, decent people where people stay courteous. And from what I've heard from Trekbeez, B'Elanna's name was thrown around as the possible love interest for Seven in Human Error, even if for shallow reasons. The "actors" totally turned down J/7. So I say we have some validity from just that alone besides all the subtexty scenes this 7th season. :b

Here's what Trekbeez posted at AQ:
"OK. As for who the writers would have liked to see, I don't think there was really a concensus. No one really seemed to thrilled about Chakotay. There were a few votes for (and I think this had to do more with reputations than anything else) B'Elanna. As for anyone else, Paris was taken, Harry had already been rejected, as had the Doc. Neelix, well, I think that speaks for itself. Tuvok is married, and is more of a father figure to her. That leaves the two other choices--chakotay and Janeway. Since they've made it pretty clear that they just don't want to go the Janeway route, and not only because the actors don't wish to, that left Chakotay. So, that's what they went with. I don't really know why they didn't just use a random guy (since it's obvious that's the direction they were headed), but they didn't."

Aggressive
Am I missing something? How did T/7ers get to be the aggressive ones? I've been on the VJB list for over six months now and I don't think I've heard anything even the slightest bit aggressive from anyone..well except for a few joking comments to do with chainsaws lol.
I started reading the thread on the AQ message board that bones was talking about, and if some of that wasn't aggressive I don't know what is..and most of those people are J/7ers. It just seems odd that we've acquired that reputation when there doesn't seem to be anything to base it on.
As to whether or not we get respect, I don't know, I've never really seen much mention of us on the AQ board, and that's the only one I visit. Personally I respect any writer who is good at creating a story, whatever faction, I just choose to read/write T/7.

Re: Aggressive
This is very disturbing - as ralst said T/7 'ers are probably the least aggressive group I have ever encountered.

Can someone give the address for the new Alt Quad message board. I haven't kept a note of it and the Alt Quad itself has just been deleted from Tripod - another disturbing mystery.

Caro.

Aggressive T/7ers
It gets pretty frustrating, which is why I'm so pleased with the new board here. I don't belive that the actor conflict is essentially a fandom split, though. I think it may involve more J/7ers because the discussion centers around Kate Mulgrew, and T/7 folks just aren't as interested. However, it is a pretty brutal debate, and I applaud Bones' decision to steer clear of the thread. It's eating the Alt Quad board alive.

The reason have crossed 'from the dark side,' so to speak, is that a your much more calm and relaxed than your beloved J/7 brethren !

Also it 'feels' right don't ask me why, but there something about the relationship that T

Re: Aggressive T/7ers
Hi there. I'm new to this board, just popped in 'cause it came up on a google search, but I saw this thread and thought I would offer my 2 cents on the topic. Please forgive the length of this, and the absence of specific examples. I'll pull some up if requested.

I can only speak for myself, on why I might think that T/7ers are "agressive" and that has to do with how my beloved Captain has sometimes been characterized in T/7 fiction. I really do like B'Elanna as a character, and have read some great writers here on the "Dark Side", but one of the reasons I stopped reading much T/7 is due to those stories that I seemed to keep running into when an author either repeatedly writes "Janey" in narrative reference, or the crew refers to the Captain in this manner. When the author paints her as crazy/cracked/martinet-like/mother-figure, etc. in a way that doesn't truly feed the plot, it gets under my skin in a not so pleasant way.

This reaction is certainly derived from my J/7 leanings, but I've tried to think about how the lovely engineer is written by J/7ers and I don't see her getting that same sort of negative treatment accorded Janeway. I might be wrong, I've just missed it in my reading, but before I stopped reading T/7 I really tried to look at what the J/7 writers were doing.

Certainly, J/7ers have used B'Elanna's character as perpetually antagonistic to Seven, However, J/7ers are much more (and very) likely to bash the First Officer's character! (Well deserved, IMHO -- <grin>) And as much as I dislike the character of Chakotay, or perhaps the portrayal by Beltran, I give less weight, appreciation, etc. to a story by an author who consistently uses "Chuckles" or "Wooden boy" unless those references come from Q, or is specifically written to bash the tatoo-ed totem. <smirk>

I recognize that part of this thread specifically was discussing the treatment that you get on other message boards, and not participating much on such, I can't comment on that area, but felt that I'd offer my thoughts on where the seeds of this treatment *may* grow from.

Besides, ya'll stole some of the best writers when folks like Lisa Countryman and DiNovia moved over to T/7!! Wouldn't you call that agressive! <VBEG>

Thanks for your time, and I stop now, hoping that I don't get too flamed. The fire supression systems are down again, and no one can get ahold of either B'Elanna or Seven to do anything about it. In fact, the computer can't seem to locate them on the ship at all.
