Dr. David Kelly
I Think It Is Utterly Diabolical What This Man Had To Go Through.
Even Though It Was Suicide, He Was Killed By The British Government.
He Said There Was No Weapons Of Mass Destruction In Iraq, And He Was Said To Be Wrong By The Prime Minister Tony Blair...Who Obviously Wants War!
My Heart-Felt Sympathy Goes Out To The Family Of Dr. David Kelly.

Dr Kelly
In full agreement with you there Dani.
If the powers that be didn't acually kill him then they drove him to it. It sounds dramatic but it isn't the first time they bumped someone off who stood to land them paddleless in a famous creek whose name rhymes with 'Brit'. I can't be the only one here who knows about the fiasco over the sinking of the Belgrano documents and how someone else around that time was found dead in the woods.
From what I can gather he did (albeit reluctantly) express pro-war views to his friends and family, but there was no doubt that the powers did not like what he had to say. I feel so sorry for his poor family.
Rights to free speech.
There is nothing particularly unique about this case, and in that respect I agree with you.
But I can't agree with you in saying it isn't important.
Who cares? Me.
It is wrong and it should be highlighted and publicly lambasted and condemned.
We all advocate challenging everything and speaking the truth as we see it and being free to do so. This man lost his life for doing just that.
This cannot be tolerated in a world wherein we should be free to speak our truths. It needs the attention it is getting.
Re: Rights to free speech.
Sorry I have to clarify what I said. I meant I don't care about the Hutton enquiry. Rather I don't like the ammount of media attention its getting.
It happens all the time so whats new now? It just so happens the argument was between the govt and the BBC to begin with. So the media attention is not about the govt lying it is in fact all about the media trying to get one over the powers that be.
If governments stopped lying to us we'd be like scared rabbits constantly and knowing things that just aren't healthy for us to know. The role of government in this repsect is not to just flat out lie but handle the information correctly. In this case it seems there was a total breakdown all over the place.

Hutton
But the difference with the Hutton enquiry is that it is linked with the biggest issue to effect us in recent years, the issue of whether attacking Iraq was justified. And there is a sinister undertone because Dr. Kelly was found dead. At worst they had him killed at best he couldn't handle the pressure being loaded on him. It needs the attention, these things can't be allowed to happen.
I agree that what is going on is the media happily getting at the government and I don't feel supportive of that, but I feel this is in the public interest. While some things are better left to the knowledge of a few in positions of power, because common knowledge of them might lead to panic, there needs to be more openness and if there is a possibility that the government can be linked directly or indirectly to the death of a guy who was simply doing his job to the best of his ability then the public needs to know. Otherwise things go from bad to worse and we have no voice for fear of being eliminated by secret police.
We also have the right to the information which will help us decide whether we support our govts in their decisions to go to war and if key detail is kept from us then we are just being blinded by propaganda. We need to know if the people running the country are sending patriots off to kill and be killed for the right reasons or if they are just warmongering assholes who need to be voted out swiftly before they get us all killed.
