Female French Singer Search
Hi folks!...I'm looking for names of modern female french jazz singers. Somebody with a smokey, sultry, bar sound. There's gotta be some out there but I'm not sure where to look. I've worn Marlene Dietrich out and I'd like to hear some suggestions for more up to date artists I can look into. My board is at Carp Circles if you'd like to stop by. Thanks for any help...

While driving through France last week the commercial radio station Musique did a critique on Mademoiselle de la Rochfort. She sounded very interesting if you can find any of her work.Let me know if you do.

French Female Jazz Vocalists
...well of course the imfamous Edith Piaff is a standard; Heldegarde played in France and recorded some great stuff. You might look at Mademoiselle de la Rochfort too.
If you're really interested in doing some reserach, the movement had a squick of a start with Cecicle Chaminade, who was by far the most prolific composer of her day, mainly the 1820s and 1830s. Althogh her short poems were more operatic in nature, she made way for for women and I believe opened the genre of music for women everwherer.

Try Karrin's Allyson's CD, "From Paris to Rio." Really a GREAT album. Her site is at karrin.com.
Or you can get personally autographed copies of this CD at:
