Financial Assistance (My Story)
Hi everyone. I'm new here and I'm wondering if you could hear me out...
My name is Peter Amiel. I am 45 years old and I live in the eastern United States. I am divorced with three children; an 8 year-old girl, and 14 and 18 year old boys, and the four of us live together in a two-bedroom apartment. My wife left me in 1998 for reasons that I will explain shortly. My oldest son is very bright and is heading off to the SUNY, the University at Buffalo, in September. I daughter is a very sweet girl and my other son is going to be going to high school very soon.
I have been in debt for about six years now. I have been paying creditors with my dozens of credit cards, and paying the credit card companies with more credit cards. I lost my job at Office Depot (an office supply chain) in December of 2001, just two weeks before the Christmas break. I have been working with federal workers and loan officers trying to get my family out of debt. However, the process is not working in my favor.
Trying to survive has been extremely difficult. My wife left me in 1998 because I was losing money fast and she couldn't handle the physical and emotional stresses of being in debt. I lost my car in October, as the bank had to repossess it. Considering all of the problems that I have had going through, my junky car wasn't that big of a deal at that time, I as could still walk a half a mile to my job -- until I was relieved of my service at the store. I am more than certain that my home is the next to go, and with it will go the hopes and dreams of my children.
Everyday, I wander the street of our city. Sometimes, my oldest volunteers to walk with me. I have a friend who is the assistant manager of Brothers' Pizza downtown. They often provide my family with free meals, but have not been able to do it as often with the falling economy and poor sales. Still, they occasionally offer us meals at significantly reduced prices. I held a job as a cashier at the nearby Burger King, but the pay was minimal and I wasn't able to complete all of my hours and return home to take care of my daughter. My sons sometime help out, but with my 14 year-old going to high school in September, and my 18 year-old leaving for college, I'm afraid I'm the only one left to help her. Again, trying to survive has been very difficult.
These days, I go to my local library to seek assistance, and I surf the internet everyday in search of jobs... and hope. Like me, my sons have been unable to find jobs. I suppose that if no one is hiring a guy like me, there's definitely no hope for today's teens. I really don't know what we're going to do.
So now you know my story. And an unfortunate story it is. I wrote this for two reasons. Firstly, I must emphasize that you never get yourselves into debt, no matter what the circumstances are. When it first happened to me, I told myself, "Naw, it's only a few hundred. I'll work and pay it off." Those hundreds soon became tens of hundreds, and those tens of hundreds became thousands. The point is, don't ever let yourself fall into such a hole. It may destroy you as it may soon destroy me.
My second reason is this: I know there are those who are very fortunate, and those who may even have been in my situation at some point in their lives, but were able to get out of it. Whoever you are, my children and I would be so eternally grateful if you could send a little something our way. Now I'm not talking loads and loads of cash. If you could help us out and just offer a small amount, not a lot, but just a small amount of anything, we would be so happy for it. My e-mail address is Peter_Amiel@hotmail.com. I'm using an online payment system called Paypal (www.Paypal.com) to handle the cash I get. If you could send just a dollar, or even just a dime to my e-mail address using PayPal, that would make a world of difference to my family and me. I could use it to help pay for my son's college education, or to support my daughter and son through everyday life. If you could even send one penny, that would make a world of a difference to my little girl, who always cheers when we get a great meal to eat, or when we find loose change on the ground.
If you are still reading this, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. And if you are able to help us, even with just a little bit, thank you. You have no idea what it means to my family. God bless you, and God bless America.
