Ladies, I found a free cross-stitch designing program that you can download and I thought this might be of interest to some of you. It is available at: www.dsv.su.se/~henrikbe/stitch/ It has a lot of features and the only thing is that the pattern prints out rather large, which could be quite a disadvantage if your design is larger. Example: I’ve charted out a little design that on 14 count cloth is approx. 4 ½ x3 in. and it printed out almost twice as big, and I had it set to the smallest size squares. Otherwise, it’s nice and you can use and print out the numbers of the colors for DMC, Anchor… and so on. Have fun!!!!!! Hannah!
Thanks for posting that link! It looks like such a neat program! I look forward to downloading it and trying it out. On my birthday, a couple years ago, we went to JoAnn's and I saw a completed "Bride's Prayer" (the cross stitch I'm working on). I thought it was soo pretty; the funny thing was I was going to JoAnn's to find the pattern. It was so pretty, but the embroidery machine costs a lot of money. This little download will work nicely to try it out!! What projects have you designed on this program? It sounds like a lot of fun! Thanks again for posting the link!! Emilee, Yes, embroidery machines are expensive! I do have a very nice sewing machine though, and I still haven't made use of all of its stitches and capabilities! I have made one small design with the cross stitch program, and it wasn't my own original design. My mom had a lovely little heart that she bought years ago. I charted it from that (and found out that the original needed many corrections--things just weren't lined up very well!), picked out different colors and sewed it! I have some finishing work to make into a heart shape with a stand on the back, but this is what it looks like so far.

Emilee, I’ll try to get those charts up tomorrow (I mean, my brother will! When I get the final project done (a padded heart with cardboard back and attached stand) I’ll try to post the instructions – I still have to figure it out myself!! But I should be able to use the original to figure it out. Serving the King, Hannah "And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word." Luke 1:38 |

Emilee, Here is the chart!! I hope it is easy enough to use—it’s not quite like professional charts! This is the color version that you can use for all of it or just the backstitching, which is hard to see otherwise. Color Heart This is the chart in symbols. Symbol Heart This is the legend that corresponds to the symbols chart. Heart Legend For clarity with the color chart, here are the colors with the parts they are used for: (of course, you can use other colors if you like!) ~Rose, dusty, ultra dark (DMC 3350)-lettering, large x-stitch hearts, portions of the flowers, and flower outlines. ~Pink, shell, very light (DMC 224)-portions of the flowers. ~Pink, shell, light (DMC 223)-small x-stitch hearts, portions of the flowers. ~Green gray, dark (DMC 3051)-heart outline ~Green, avocado, ultra light (DMC 472)-parts of flower leaves. ~Green, Pistachio, very dark (DMC 319)-parts of flower leaves. I did my project on 14 count cream aida cloth, using 2 strands for cross stitches and backstitches. On the charts, you will notice that in several places there are pairs of backstitch lines either next to or above each other. This means use one backstitch to go across both of the squares. If you have any problems, please let me know, because I’m not quite sure how to explain everything clearly! Serving the King, Hannah |
