Going places one shouldn't
So there we were trying trying to get from the Nexus to Scarlet Desert. Me, Lili, Ranth, and Essia, trying to hook up with Warrbuffer and try and get some mad xp. So someone suggests going through Grieg's End strait to Twilight Sea. The trusty Ranger and his sidekick wizard pull out the maps of the known world and we think we might get lucky and can lesser evac to the other side since the zone is pretty nasty and track shows a whole lot of red mob's to this ranger. The group huddles together and the wizard casts her magic's and suddenly, we are 2 steps to the left of where we were a moment before. What other ways are there to our destination?
Lets go through Echo Caverns and Fungus Grove. Again eqatlas has no map, but we find one on another site. Looks pretty simple, lets sow in the nexus, invis and go. About 3/4 of the way through Essia loses her invisibility, she stops recasts, and starts off when all of a sudden, it fades again, and Essia drops before anyone realizes what is happening (those spellcasters have to start learning to cast with more protective gear than robes).
We grab her corpse and go, hoping to get a rez at the other end of the grove. About 3/4 of the way to our destination, the big cat loses his invis. Without having time to recast invis for those who need it, Ranth is running across the grove with at least 2 dozen mobs hot on his tail. Lili and I keep chase hoping we can get to the zone line before anything else bad happens, happily dragging Essia as we go. Ranth goes down in a heap and his train returns to where they came from.
As Lili and I are now circling the cavern trying to find the zone and get to safety we realize we have gone to far. We backtrack, still no sign of the zone line. My invis starts to fade, we back up against the wall, Lili starts to re-invis, and something comes out of nowhere to drop her. I am suddenly rooted and is unable to find what is casting on him, decides it is best to stay and have all the remains close together.
Back in the nexus, we meet up, and decide it is best for one person to do the CR, so I look at the map again and realize the exit to Twilight Sea is in the middle of the cavern and from the map appears to be a tunnel. I sow up, and take Essia through Echo Caverns so she can invis me since it is an indoor zone. Back through Fungus Grove to Ranth's corpse I go. Grab the corpse and start dragging and there it is a cave in the middle of the zone which looks like it matches the exit on the map. Past the bug guards through the cavern, more bugs.
I start getting a bit nervous, and praying that the invis holds. I go through several tunnels and they open into small rooms filled with more bugs. Then finally one opens into a large room with a hill in the middle and a tunnel headed out. THIS MUST BE IT! at the tunnel entrance is a group of hardy folk fighting bugs. I ask if this is where the exit to TS is, and get a hardy response of chuckles and "You shouldn't be in here". Then I realize that the bug caves aren't on the map and I am now dragging Ranth's corpse all over this uncharted place. Pray some more to Tunare. Finally, I find my way out of the bug caves and lo and behold at the edge of my vision I see the very beginning of a bridge before it fades into the darkness above me.
Up the hill, over the bridge, leave the corpse. Back down the bridge to my own corpse, drag it back, and my invis starts to fade. Out of the darkness steps a dwarven cleric named Chass, who is rezzing Ranth and rezzes myself as well. Before I can ask if he can wait a moment he is gone, off to meet up with his own hunting party. I step outside to the Twilight Sea to refresh my sow and cast camo on myself where some kind people healed me up while I was medding.
I reentered the Grove, and made a quick dash to get Essia and Lili's corpses and bring them back to our new safe point. Ranth sends out a call for some rezzes for our fallen friends, but all are at the other end of the zone, where we began our journey. Ranth and I decide it is best to bring the bodies back so we step outside to TS one last time to sow and camo up for the run back. Fortunately, on this run our buffs held up and we got Lili and Essia back pretty quickly.
Quite the evening for this particular wood elf who learned that you can't always trust those map makers to draw what they see.
Re: Going places one shouldn't
AHHHH Aahz, nobody makes dieing an artform quite like you. AND there is not a person here that can call you selfish in your quest for death...you are always one to share. I have said it before and i will say it again, if you are not dieing, you are not trying !! Keep it up Aahz, i will never grow tired of rezing you !
Re: Going places one shouldn't
In a sick twisted way it was a lot of fun. Probably less so for the other three who had to sit around while I explored the wrong parts of Fungus Grove. I still can't believe how long Essia's invis lasted, otherwise I think we would still be looking for the corpses.
It would be really nice if there were 1 or two ports on the moon that could help people get around a bit easier. So often the zones are empty once you get a zone or two beyond the Nexus and Shadowhaven.
