Re: Harry Potter Legos
IMHO, I think it's awful how Harry Potter is turning into another money-making merchandising-thingie. Don't get me wrong, I love the books, but I don't see why they had to take them and make a movie, and things to buy.
oh god no.... SpaceGypsy Jade, I completely agree with you! All these commercial bandwagons, salesmen etc., are going to ruin everyone's (or at least my own) versions of what Harry and co., should look like.
Just imagine the future- harry potter bedspreads, harry potter gameboy/ N64/ playstation games, harry potter mobile phone covers, harry potter yoyos, harry potter... ugh. It's a great series, but these little toys etc., don't do it any favours.
But they will definitely rake in money which is probably all they want.
Re: Harry Potter Legos EllethStar--Yes, the thing they want is money. Which, I guess, I can understand. I mean, that's what everything's about nowadays, isn't it? (note the sarcasm). BUT-why did Rowling sell the rights of H.P. to these companies? It's not as if she needs the cash...
Sorry if I seem a little harsh on her there, but it's true.

Re: Harry Potter Legos
I like some of the merchandise ...... Well i like the shirts! Warner Brothers has REALLY COOL Harry Potter shirts..It doesn't have any pictures of characters on it so it won't ruin your vision of how they look. The rest of the merchandise might not be so good Any ways, the movie will ruin your visions of how they look anyway, but at least the merchandise will have all the same looking characters on it because it will be after the movie.
alright..
fine, yes, I know, true SpaceGypsy Jade, I just don't like the toys and lego stuff. That stuff bugs me. But there's nothing wrong with making more money..
I like the mugs and the shirts though Now they're cool..
And about the movie, yeah it will ruin my perspective of the characters, but it will be interesting to see how they produce the magic etc. Which is what I'm interested in.
Re: alright..
I'm not sure if I'm going to see the movie...
I know, it sounds dumb, but it seems like everytime they make a movie out of a good book, they completely mess it up to the point where it's barely recognizable. Take, for example, Stuart Little. The movie was nothing like the book!
And, where are they going to end the Harry Potter movie? All of the books that are out so far have(sort of) cliffhanger endings. Hollywood movies generally never end like that.
So, I don't know if I want to see the movie or not because I don't want to be disapointed.

Re: alright..
Heya...
I totally agree, people who write books usually don't do it because they're forced to, or for money, but because they enjoy what they create and it's well, part of them.. (I should know, I write)... It's not right to turn that into money, but that's done with a lotta things nowadays..
It's said that Rowling used to stroll her baby up and down the streets until she (I think?) fell asleep, then she'd go into the coffee shop to write (typewriter I think the article said), and she was so poor that she had to type it over cause she couldn't afford the copies...
LOL, I happen to feel very strongly about animal rights, and right now I'm just feeling horrible that a white owl is going to be captured and trained... Again, along with all those animals that are forced to act. *sighs*
Re: alright..
Hey I heard about J.K Rowlings money status before Harry Potter came out. It was none to good! So she might be happy every one wants to make dolls, movies, and other toys out of Harry and his friends! The more they make the more money she gets! That story was a JACKPOT!

Re: it was indeed...
Well, I was making a Harry Potter video game...not for money...just so that people could play the story...
Know what I mean? AND IT WAS GOING TO BE BASED ON THE BOOK! NOT THE MOVIE! I just though a Harry Potter video game would be cool...SORRY! But it took forever to think it up!
hmmmm........
I kind of think that It was a bad idea to do the movie, but hey, now we can see the characters form JK Rowlings point of veiw! My mom always says 'Look on the Bright Side of Everything!'.
Oh, ya whats your video game gonna be named, and is it for nintendo 64?
Re: hmmmm........
Haha, I'm not making it annymore. Eletronic Arts got the REAL job. Basically what I did was go to my friend's house and brainstorm ideas until we could finally make the game.
It was named the same as the book: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (We wanted to do all the exciting stuff right away)and was going to be on all of these:
Playstation, N64, PC
But we can probably still make Quidditch Finals (Quidditch sports game), though, since I don't think anyone else thought of a Quidditch game where you make your players and teams and stuff.
