Harry's parents were aurors!
Rowling said that Harry's parrent's job(s) is/are intregal to the plot. they left Harry a bunch of gold and aurors probably make a lot of money. And what other job would be that important to the plot?

Yea how could any of that be important to the plot? Unless of course they played a role that we don't know about. Like something to do with Dark Arts.( not very likely.) Or some part to the Ministry.
