Horse Winter Blanket
Need advice/opinions: Live in an area that has temps of 20-30 degrees. Snows/Rains. Do travel with my horses to the high country and to portions of the state that are cold/wet while they live in an area that is very hot during the summer;so I'm very concerned about the change in weather. It was highly recommended to me to purchase Kensington 4 seasons blanket but:
- the blanket does not come up high on the neck to protect from the rain. Do I need to be concerned about that? My horses have the free choice of being out in the pasture or coming into their own stalls.
- I notice some blankets have fleece at the withers. Obviously it would get wet and soggy. Do you have problems with that?
- One of my horses LOVES to tear off fly masks from the other horse so I'm concerned he will "play" with the blankets. Which blanket material is the best to have for all these conditions?
- Is it best to spend the bucks and go for the Kensington if it has all those sheets and the ability to "hook" together rather than buy one for the rain, one for the snow days, etc.
- I notice some now have gussets at the front legs. Is that a lot better? Should I concern myself with that?
- I have also read that blankets rub the front shoulders over a period of time. Do I need to buy a light sheet that has been advertised to "shine" the coat and protect from the rubbing?
- What make do you have/use and why do you like it/don't like it?
Thanks for all your advice and opinions. Before I spend the bucks I wanted the "real" story.
