How did you get your Roadrunner?
I actually bought my 72 twice. The first time the guy I bought it from backed out and for legal reasons I was forced to return the car to him.
Then one day about 6 months later I see an ad in the paper for a 72 Roadrunner for $600, so I call up the guy and make arrangements to look at it. To my surprise it happened to be the same car but a different owner. This guy said there was way too much wrong with the car, it just quit running, and he wasn't up to having a project car. The battery was way dead and it wouldn't start even with a jump. After fooling around with it for a while I figured out what might be wrong with it and asked the guy what the lowest price he would sell the car. He tells me $400 since it doesn't run. I acted like I was counting the money in my wallet and offered him $275 (I had close to $1000). He said what the hell, no one else called about it and his wife was tired of seeing it sitting in the driveway. So I gave him the money and he handed me the signed title.
A friend of mine was with me and we got to work on it. We pulled a new battery from the bed of my truck and dropped it in, bolted on a new Mopar ignition module, a quick shot of ether, pumped the gas and cranked her over first time. This dude comes barreling out of the house in amazement as I'm backing out of the drive. I dropped it into drive and lit up the back tires, backed up and said, "See ya later and thanks, it runs great." and we drove away. Best $275 I ever spent...

Heheheh! That's pretty good!
I saw mine advertised in the paper in 88. Went to check it out, and it was not all that bad. A couple of guys had stopped in earlier, and one of them was comming back with money. I ended up giving the guy $750 and drove it home.
Turns out the guy came back minutes after I left, and he was a friend of mine! Oh well, I had sold that guy my 69 Charger pretty cheap, and didn't have a Mopar, so I didn't feel too bad! In fact, I felt pretty damn good!

Re: How did you get your Roadrunner?
I'm pretty new to the mopar arena. In 1998 I met a guy who was a mopar nut. He had colleceted
lots of Mopar stuff over the years. I've always been a chevy man, but I really liked the mopar muscle
cars. I've had Impalas, 66SS 396 4-spd, 64convert, 64sshdtp, and most recently a 62 hdtp.
I had bugged this friend of mine to sell his mopar stuff but he was reluctant to do so and wanted to hang on to it. Well, in May 200 he asked me if I was still interested. I ended up selling my 62 impala so I could buy stuff from him. 2-70 rr's & a 70 Sat. All need resto. Now he has offered to sell me a 70 GTX and a bunch of mopar parts and parts cars. I posted a message "too good to pass up". I don't know if it will work out
or not, I have enough storage space if i do get it. But, the price may be too high, I don't know yet.
If I do get it I probably will be selling most of it to help fund my RR project.
So, I am a converted chevy fan. Really I was a closet mopar fan all along I just didn't have the
mopar to go along with it. When I was 17 a guy took me for a ride in his 69 1/2 superbee, 440 6-pac,
4-speed. That was 19 yrs ago, I've been hooked since.
Thats why this site is so great, lots of people who know mopars to help us newbees out.
Re: How did you get your Roadrunner?
Found it in an ad in '96. Me and Dad pulled it home thinking no sweat, running in no time. Right.
Fast forward 5 years and most of my spare cash, it has around 20-30 miles on it.
The "3 season daily driver" will likely end up putting miles on a 1/4 at a time.
On the upside I did put around 5,000 happy miles on the Challenger before it was retired to the garage. I wish I wasn't so damn tired, I would finish both.
'69 Road Runner 383 going to 440, 6brl hood, likely gonna race it
'70 Challenger R/T clone 440, 2nd owner, 300,00 miles on body, not kidding
'92 Cummins 1 ton, in need of restoration bad
'79 360 1 ton flatbed-for sale
'01 WS6 T/A- for sale

How I got my 2 present runners
My Superbird I bought in Kansas City ,MO. I had always told my dad we should get one. He told me the only color he liked on Birds was B5 Blue. So one day I was looking through Hemmings and there was a Blue 440+6 4 Speed White Bucket interior Superbird. So jokingly I called my dad and told him. He said call the guy which I did. 2 Days later we flew to Kansas City from Chicago beat a guy from New York by 1 day and Drove it home.
My 72 6 Pack Runner Is a dream I always had because I love 72's. So obviously a 72 6 pack car was the ultimate 72. I looked for years for one never finding one, assuming they existed because they were in the brochure, service manual and the parts book. After a few years I met Galen Govier and he informed me that he had found 1 Runner and 2 Charger 6 pack cars made in 72. He would not tell me who owned it because the owner wanted it that way, which I understood. As time went on I got to know Galen pretty well, One day I come home from work and My wife says Galen called. I asked why and he said there was a car for sale that I would be interested in. At that time I had the Superbird,2 72 Runners, and a General Lee. I told her I did not want another car, She informed me that the 6 pack car was for sale. I immediately called Galen of course. He gave me the name of the owner, I called him and made arrangements for my friend who works for the Airline to go look at it, as he flies for almost free. He went and took video and pictures and after he got back I called the owner and made an offer. We struck a deal and as soon as my new 94 Ram pickup came in I trucked off to North Carolina to get my car. Ironically I bought the car that supposedly was never built on April fools day.

I'm kind partial to Impala SS cars as well. I definitely could go for a 4-speed 66 SS myself.

Re: How Did You Get Your Road Runner
Well the story involves a few other cars, so here's the Readers Digest version. While I lived in Seattle I sold my 63 Chrysler 300-J to a really nice guy and we become friends. A few months later he came by my shop with a 69 Super Bee on his car trailor. I checked out the Bee and asked him how much? I bought it on the spot. I fixed up the Bee over the next year, it needed everything and then some. Then I moved back to Alberta. I drove the Bee all year and really enjoyed the car. Previous owner and I still keep in touch. Anyway, during a phone conversation one day and says that he wants the Bee back, I tell him only if he gives me what I'm into it for. During out talks about the Bee he trades a 68 Satellite convert project car for a 68 Road Runner that is pretty decent but needs work. Hummmmm, I've always wanted a 68 post Road Runner, so I'm interested. He e-mails me pictures and gives me an accurate description. I trust him because I know him, he is a fussy guy and knows his stuff too. We hammer out a value on the Runner and do a deal. So in effect, I traded my 69 Super Bee for my 68 Road Runner plus cash.
Oh yea, when I sold my 300-J, I also sold a very beautiful 300-L the same week. I was down to one car then, my 69 GTX. I promised myself that I would consintrate on my GTX restoration and only when it was totally completed, I would consider getting another car. Well that lasted a month or two and then came the Super Bee and the GTX money went to it ... well not all of the $$. I can't help myself, I'm not happy with just one ... must have more. Then there's the parts cars that you can't part out, and on ... and on ... My mother tells me that I should belong to AA ... automobiles anonyms.

Re: How Did You Get Your Road Runner
Got back from "The Nam", needed a car, any car real bad. Bought a 69 Z28..Took fellow troops back and forth to the airport to keep gas in it. Two-Three weeks old, rolled it one night on a graveled negative turn. Alabama insurance man say's "Boy you ain't gonna own another hot car in my state!!! Once again desparate for wheels I hitch a ride to B'Ham bought a 63 Falcon with all of my remaining cash. Discharged, back home working, rear ended someone!!! Setting in a local bar with a buddy on Thursday Nite listening to the R&R band ($2.00 all the beer you can drink!!). See an ad on the bar TV for a Plymouth Dealer "$25.00 over Invoice for any Vet"! We drove down there, had my pick of two green ones and a Yellow. The salesman could certainly smell the beer I'm sure. Right turn out of the lot nailed it! Damp winter roads, 360, back in the lot, salesman ashen!! I put a $25.00 deposit on it, came back three days later and picked it up. AHHH Yeeessss!! As the eyes roll back in their sockets.....Sherwood Green, HT, Hemi, 3:91's, 4 spd, Trak Pak, Bench seats, Induction Hood, Dog Caps. There was a tear in my eye when that one drove away in 1976.
Re: How Did You Get Your Road Runner
Long story...here's the edited version.
You see, I had this 1998 Ram Quad cab I was lookng to sell. As I was taking my daughter to a dentist appt, I saw this glimpse of orange fender at a used car lot . I had my wife with me and we decided to investigate...so we pull in on the way home and we struck gold! Not only was it a mopar, but it was sitting right beside another! Hemi orange 70 road Runner AND a Sunfire yellow 69 Super bee. both were low class 3/ high class 4 big block cars...how do you chose just one!!!!! YOU DON'T!!! You go up to the lot owner and say if you pay off $25,000 on my truck, I'll pay the $17,000 you're asking for both muscle cars . Then you faint when he says you got a deal, AND finds a bank to finance them . I have to say it sucks when you have to tell some one you only have two cars in your family...a 1969 Super Bee, and a 1970 Road Runner!

Re: How Did You Get Your Road Runner
Its' a real "kruzer"! Built in Nov '69 in the LA plant. Lot's of strange A & C body parts were found while dismantling, eg; wiper motor eccentric, heater core etc.
Chased a gal down the road on my motorcycle as she was heading up Interstate 80 towards Reno. Pulled along side (85 mph) yelled "Do you want to sell THAT CAR?" She nodded and pulled over. It had a 440 w/ 2x4's, nasty interior, body straight (the car/not her). A couple of days later her husband (second owner) called and we did the deal. Got two engines with the car. That was 12 years ago. Finally got a place to take it apart, 3 years later this is what happened. Still have the HP440, looking for a set of wheels to slide it between.
Re: How did you get your Roadrunner?
Just got mine a few months back. Bid on a great one on ebay, but I was way out bid. Ebya is a bit nuts, sometimes. Anyway, bidders kept backing out and the guy called me a few weeks after the auction closed. I actually went to see the car in So. Cal (about 50 miles from where I live). Just an awesome unrestored car. I cruised it around a bit. I paid the guy right there. Drove it home and love it. Runs like a peach.
I'm probably the luckiest on this topic...As I've mentioned before,my Dad bought the 'Bird I have now brand new in 1970.In 1984,we started building a new race car,and 2 race cars are a handful,so my Dad decided to sell the Road Runner. We had a lot of tire kickers, but nobody had any cash.So my Dad made me a offer, knowing that I wanted that car real bad.I traded him my 69 Barracuda, with all spare race parts for the Road Runner. We had run the 'Bird with a race automatic 727,so I had to give that back along with the Dana 60 we put in.Still to me it was a great deal, and what helped was that I found another 1970 that had a roached body, but the driveline was OEM original,so I swapped in the 4-speed and 8 3/4,put it back on the road.

How did you get your Roadrunner?
At Chryslers at Carlisle last summer I went straight to the car corral. After looking at hundreds of cars for sale, I was losing hope half way through the last row and there it was. Just what I had been looking for--a '70 6-BBL RR in need of some TLC. Its all original except for a repaint in 1980 and I'm the second owner! I had been searching for the right car for more than a year. I'm taking a welding class so I will be able to do most of the body work myself. Its actually in good shape considering the age. This is really a dream come true for me. I promised myself at 16 years old that I would buy one before reaching 30 and I did it with less than a year to spare! I can't wait till its show worthy, but its still fun to drive as is.
Re: How did you get your Roadrunner?
I was looking for a 70'. My brother in-law's uncle had a 72' which he bought for somebody else. I wasn't really keen on that style, but it did have a pistol grip. After getting it home I found out how it is quite a orphan. 906 built with a 4 speed 400. It was bought in my home town in 72' the left for texas for 15 years, as the guy was in the service. Blew up the original, put in a 74' drove it for 5 years. Needless to say a externally balanced engine with a internally balanced flywheel will give a $50 vibrator a run for its money. Drilled the fly wheel at work [aircraft engine rebuilders] vibration gone. soon will have a 451 in its place. the 69' was somebody elses project. that ones going up for sale cheap.

Bought my 70 roadrunner in 88 from guy who said he was offered $50.00 for the rear differential.told me for $50.00 you can have the whole car needless to say I scrounged up the money and drove the car away.I was only 20 when this happened.Just started to restore the car for me and my 5 yrs old son to play with
How did you get your Roadrunner? um, Satellite :)
Hi...I bought my car in August of 2000. I dreamed for years of owning this car, and finally during the spring of 2000, I had the dough! My dream car was a 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus. After several months of looking, I was becoming frustrated and almost bought a 65 Dart, 69 Dart, 73 Duster, and two different 72 Satellite's. But something always held me back, and I wouldn't pull the trigger. Now I know it was the desire of getting what I wanted.
Of all places, I found my car on Ebay. It was up for an opening bid of $4500...It had 203,000 miles, there were no photo's, and the seller had no feedback. I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much money, so I waited for the auction to end. After it ended with no bids, I e-mailed the owner (the original owner!) for a pic. She sent me a real grainy photo I will attach at the end of this post. After a 4 or 5 e-mails and one short phone call, we agreed on $4000. DAS shipped the car from Arizona to Michigan for $720.
Man was I nervous that week the car was on the way. The day DAS called, I rushed over to the terminal to see the car. It looked even better then I expected!! I almosted pee'd my pants standing behind the locked fence staring at the car. After driving a small car for several years since my 78' Magnum, I thought it would feel weird driving that big B-body...but it felt like a glove.
Some dream of RR's, mine was just a Satellite Sebring Plus. Mine is a matching numbers 318w/904 trans. It has over 212,000 now!!! It was rebuilt at 178,000 and runs perfect. The transmission shifts fine, but has never been rebuilt. It has AC, PS, PB, buckets, console/slap slick, rallye dash, and a trans cooler all factory.
I purchased the car from the ORIGINAL OWNER! She bought it new from a dealer in LA, California...then moved to Arizona. I have the broadcast sheet, bill of sale, and many other papers for the car. The car was ordered by the dealer to put on the lot, which explains the color choices. I write the lady two or three times a year to let her know about updates to the car and whats going on. I lived out a mopar freaks dream...to buy your dream car from the oringinal owner.
Here is more info & photo's. Look for some interior pics to be added in the next few days. The inside is as nice as the outside.
Re: How did you get your Roadrunner? um, Satellite :)
That is a sharp @$$ car Brian.
I don't know if you've seen in one of my earlier posts, but I've spotted a 71 SSP just down the road from me here in Germany. Not as sharp as your car but a B-body Plymouth none the less. I'm trying to run down the owner to see if its for sale. Maybe he'll take a 91 BMW 735i in trade...
