How much cfm. can a Built 440 take?
My girlfriends Dad has a BUILT 440 in a sleeper 383/727 car. The 440 is .30 over forged internals, balanced and blue printed, ported and polished. It has a 850 cfm Holley Eliminator on top of a Edelbrock intake. Some one told me this engine currently at 500 hp. could take as much as 1100 cfm!!!!:eek

The guy at the speed shop I just went to said that for street use he did not think the 440 bored .030 over, stroked and cam, would take more than 850 cfm?:\

Re: Guy at speed shop said only 850 cfm?
Diminutive Lid,

I don't have the #'s off the top, but I believe a stock 6 pack car has total carb cfm in excess of 900+ cfm. I'm running 850 Edelbrock Performer on a mild 440. Depending on heads and exhaust, I'd bet you could easily run 850.
