How old were y'all when you got your hope chests and/or started collecting things? My younger sister Ellen is eleven. Lately she has been asking for a hope chest. Daddy told her she is too young. Also, recently one of Ellen's friends (same age) was telling me about the things she is saving for when she gets a hope chest. I got mine for my thirteenth birthday two years ago. In Christ, Emma |

Hi Emma!
I was 13 too, when I got my hope chest. When I was younger, around your sister's age, I started saving a few little things to later put in my hope chest. Blessings! Emilee Elizabeth |

Hi Emma! I got my hope chest last summer, when I was 15 (about 3 months before my 16th birthday), since it wasn’t until then that the opportunity really presented itself. I did have a few things stored in a box for maybe a year before I got the hope chest, and some things, like my quilt (handmade by my great-grandmother!), were other places. Now I have a little more incentive to collect things…Daddy tells me they’re not going to marry me off just because I’ve got it filled up! LOL! Have a great day! ~Hannah ![]() "Delight thyself also in the Lord; and He shall give thee the desires of thine heart." Ps.37:4 Edited by: His Handmaid at: 4/12/03 6:53:11 am |

Hello girls!! I got my grandmother's old hope chest when I turned sixteen last year. I think a girl should wait until then. Well, those are my personal opinions. |

Hello! 16 is a tradition in our family. I know that if we gave one of our little girls a hope chest right now, who knows what they would put in it! I guess it really depends upon the person, and what your family decides. This is just my personal opinion, but I think that we need to let children be children as long as possible. They will grow up soon enough. When you get a hope chest it really makes you think about your adulthood, and marriage. Those kinds of thoughts in a child's mind often lead to discontentment with their childhood. It makes them want to grow up faster. Childhood should be enjoyed as long as possiable! Please remember that this is just my opinion. God knows what's best for each individual, and He even cares about something as small as when we get our hope chest! I'am glad that He cares about the little things too! ~*~Shannon~*~ That you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe. Well, I was supposed to be 16 when i got mine, but that hasn't happened yet, and I'm 19 I don't really have anything saved up, I'm waiting till i have a place to put it. I also keep thinking that when I'm engaged, I can register for a lot of the things I want, so i won't have to put as much in my hopechest. But that's just me I personally think 16-18 is a good age for getting hopechests, but like Danielle said, it depends on the girl and what her parents decide.
