How the Other Half Lives
60 min.
The four-part “Hybrid Chronicles” concludes with this pivotal installment, which reveals how the royal four became human.

The story centers on the manhunt for the kidnapper of Laurie Dupree (Allison Lange), an enigmatic young woman who first appeared to Isabel (Katherine Heigl) in the alien's nightmares. In this episode, the Roswell teens discover why Laurie was abducted and her role in another life form's attempt to wipe out all living creatures on Earth. They also learn the anthropological origins of their existence and why Laurie's relatives want her to believe she is mentally ill: she is the heir to her family's vast estate.

Jeez, I'm the first to comment on this one? What's that a sign of?

I can't say as I was crazy about it. In fact, the whole Hybrid Chronicles were a little too Sci-Fi for me. And I like Sci-Fi. Anyway, just some random thoughts:

*I was a little puzzled by the group's reaction to the appearance of Larek. I'd thought in prior episodes he'd acted like he was an ally, but when he announces he isn't Brody everyone looked like they were about to run for cover.

*Curious that Max would ask Kyle to help dig, especially after Kyle told him to stay out of their lives 2 eps ago. Curious that Kyle went with them.

*Isabel didn't appear to be in much of a hurry at the UFO museum when she was looking for the tools. After all, it was only her ex-boyfriend suffocating under ground.

*Speaking of being underground, that's one hell of a cell phone Kyle has. I can't even get mine to work inside of Walmart! :lol And how can crystals that need oxygen to survive live in a sealed cave underground? (That's headed for the blooper board)

*Like Colin's hair longer.

*Interesting that Kyle was picking at Alex to find out what being part of the group was like. Maybe he's starting to like the idea? :)

*Michael used his powers infront of Laurie and Duff - and neither of them freaked? Not even the unstable one?

*Nice scenes between Michael and Laurie. Michael finally has a little family. I liked the bomb shelter scene when he was looking at his "donor's" journal.

*What's with the hats? (she scratches her head, wondering if Tess got hers at a church rummage sale)

*I thought the actor who played Grant (sorry, can't remember his name) did an excellent job.

*Please spare us the cheesy special effects. A blue flying jelly fish? I groaned audibly at that one. Come on - no special effects are better than ones that make you groan out loud.

*Where are Brian and IMM? I'm not the ONLY opinionated one out here!!! :lol

That's all for now. I need to watch it again and see if it grows on me some more.

Re: No comments, yet?
Yeah, hey all, I've been absent WAY too long from the board. I can't think of one thing that is different in my life compared to a month ago but it seems like I have no time to do anything fun. I used to check this board out everyday and post a lot, now it seems like I don't even have time to lurk. My time-crunch has also affected my Roswell viewing...As far as "THCs" (no, not the chemical in pot, I mean the name of the latest story arc) I usually only catch the eppys on tape and only get to watch most of them once. I feel kind of alienated from the series right now, its rather strange. And "THCs" haven't really helped alieviate that feeling. Overall I think it was an important series that provided us with one answer amidst the million questions we have. But technically, I think it was rushed. It was reckless in spots with a lot of implausible occurences. It definitly was not classic Roswell...I don't think it even qualifies as good TV viewing, in general (except for "Disturbing Behavior" which I thought was well done and one of the best eppys yet, at least as far as story arc eps go). Sure, it may have a much bigger budget, but recent episodes of The X-Files have kicked the hell out of "THCs" on both a realistic sci-fi level and on the human relationship front that Roswell has been known for.
I'll try to have a more complete review of "THC" up on my web site within a couple days, but like I said, it doesn't ever seem like I have time to do ANYTHING. I agree with almost everything Karen said above, except for the one about the "blue flying jelly fish." I kind of liked it. I was kind of hoping they could've kept it around as a mascot like 'The Great Gazoo' on The Flintstones. I thought the jellyfish was a nifty special effect for such a cash strapped show. I thought it looked suprisingly real and it was unexpected, so that was cool. But hey, I liked Tess' "firestorm" at the end of "Wipe Out!", too, and everyone else hated that. Go figure...

Mr. Cheesy FX,

P.S. - I Will Be Back!!! Let's get this board rockin' again!! C'mon Lis, get off those spoiler threads!!! Neeners? Vicki? Anybody?

I need an intervention
Okay, I can't stop with this one. It's becoming more and more obvious that Ron Moore doesn't know these characters. I watched it again, and I'm scratching my head more...

*Why did Grant kidnap Isabel? And why was he supposed to kill her?

*Anyone think of maybe calling the sheriff to let him know his son was suffocating to death? Jeez, they call him in any other situation - maybe he could have gotten a back hoe or something. I don't know...

*Why was Grant trashing Michael's apartment - and what was he hoping to find in the refrigerator?

Okay, Brian, you can enjoy cheesey FX if you want to. I guess I just wondered where the whole queen idea came from out of nowhere. It seemed contrived. And you're right - I think THC could have been about 2 episodes long and that would have been sufficient. Strange choice for sweeps month.

I need Brian's straight jacket. It's just a show, Karen, it doesn't have to make sense... :lol

Re: I am an invitation
All excellent questions, MM. THC were full of them. Everyone is wondering why Monday's ratings were so low. Maybe some new viewers thought the plots were getting a little dippy. Maybe some long-time viewers were getting disillusioned with the show and REALLY DIDN'T CARE how THC ended up. Like I said before - I really liked "Disturbing Behavior", but, as a whole, THC left me yelling "This is not MY Roswell!! WHAT HAPPENED?!?!"
THC looked so cool going in, but they let us down. And with the low ratings during the crucial (and maybe "do or die" for Roswell) Feb. sweeps, "The Hybrid Chronicles" may have sealed Roswell's doom. But I'm not giving up hope yet. I thought the same thing at this time last year, then along came "Tess, Lies, & Videotape" and everything after that, and Roswell pulled itself from the ashes. I'm hoping for the same this year. I'm continuing to write letters for the campaign.
Speaking of Ron Moore, I was wondering about that type of thing, if certain writers/directors have been responsible for my fav eppys or certain ones produce some of my least favorite. I went looking for the writer/directors of past episodes but can't find them anywhere, even on the WB site. The best I could find was info on recent eps on Crashdown's Spoiler page. Anyone know where I can find a complete list of writers and directors from both seasons?!?

THC: The Hybrid Chronicles
BBBRRRIIIAAANNN?!?!?! Is that really you? I was beginning to think you abandoned us or something! Good to see you back, finally. I agree, let's get this board back to what it used to be. One thing (rather person) is missing from our circle though... WHERE IS...I-M-M?!?!?!?!

Speaking of Lisa, (Lisa, if you ever see/read this)...weren't you coming out this way last week or so...and if you did did you go to Covina at all? Just wondering cuz we were there last Friday night (2/16) and I thought about you later the next day thinking what a bummer if I didn't meet you if you were indeed there. Well, come back to the boards soon...I, for one, miss your humor and go-arounds with Brian! I need to laugh some more! ;)

Well, as for THC...I'm with you guys...was expecting more, I think and just wasn't too impressed with them. It was ok, not the worst I've seen, but like Brian said, just wasn't the same ole Roswell (even for Season 2). Some thoughts from this episode:

*Loved all the interaction between Michael/Maria at Laurie's house... :lol I think Brendan did an excellent job in this episode.

*Loved the scenes betwen Alex & Kyle both while digging and once inside the crystal cave. Was laughing out loud during a few of these. And the singing... :lol :lol ...too cute/funny, and they actually didn't sound half bad (if it was them). ;)

*Did anyone else notice that Liz and Tess hugged each other at the end after Alex and Kyle got out of the cave? Hmmm.... Interesting, anyway. Maybe that wasn't supposed to be, it almost looked like Shiri turned around and slipped a little and they just hugged to cover it up and kept going. Who knows... Just something I noticed.

*I agree, Karen, the actor who portrays Grant did an EXCELLENT job in this episode as well! I think it was so great how the real Grant fought the "thing" possessing him to warn Isabel and essentially save her life by telling her to get out of the car. Great scene.

*I didn't think much of the jellyfish thing...but agree more with Brian (I think it was who thought it wasn't too bad) that I thought it was pretty cool and real-looking.

*Totally thought Valenti was going to tell Duff everything before they left for Arizona, but was UTTERLY surprised she didn't flip when Michael used his powers in front of her. Also, that Michael & Maria didn't flip realizing that he did use them in front of her. And from the scene with Valenti and her drinking coffee...it seems she knows all now. Wonder if she'll be a friend or enemy?

*Oh, and about Brody/Larek...I think they were jumping up (notice it was only Isabel and Max) to help him (since what happened last time) or something...not that they were scared and going to run for life.

*Loved how they all looked at Liz when Larek was talking all scientific. :lol

*I, too, think Kyle is finally beginning to see the bright/positive side of being "in the know" here...thanks to Alex, I might add! Great scene/dialogue between the two there, I thought.

*I thought Liz looked cute in her hat in the woods, didn't like Isabel's bandana though, just didn't look right on Katie.

*Karen, yes, amazing cell phone power Kyle has! :lol Loved the dialogue between Liz and him though! Too funny!

Well, there are other things, but this post is quite long enough. Not to fear, I know next week's episode will redeem itself and bring back some of that Roswell we all love so much! I truly can't wait for this one...I'm completely excited to see it!!! I have my own theory already about this whole Max/Liz wedding scene...will be interesting to see how it's portrayed. This one is up there with EOTW and ARCC as far as anticipation and excitement to see!!! Hopefully it'll help with ratings...it is at the end of SWEEPS month! :) Take care all and will be talking to ya soon! Don't be strangers to this place, either...BRIAN and IMM (if she ever reappears!) ;)

Lisa, where art thou?! ;) :lol

Re: THC: The Hybrid Chronicles
Hi Tina! Been a long time...
Thanks for the links Vicki. The second one was the best I've seen out there, as far as what I've been looking for, even though there was no S2 info. Anyone know who wrote and directed "The White Room"?

The search for Lisa goes on,

White Room
Hey, EF - I know that Jonathan Frakes directed the White Room, but I'm not sure who penned it.
