Human v Iksar test Hail all. First post so go easy. Background: It is all a bit confusing to a new player like me, (been on EQ for 1 month now, been playing MMORPG's for 3 years) that being H or I for a monk. There are some brilliant posts here and from other boards, but I guess the real problem is only a choice of two races. It really is quite clinical, if you have lots of choices you can hide your character and stats, good points bad points, ad/disadvantages and so on amongst the thousands of other %t's out there, but with two choices it seems a lot harder. Is a H going to be better high game, does higher Agility on an I mean I am nerfing my H, damm 20% xp hit, who really levels quicker?? With that in mind I did a quick test and was pretty amazed at the results. Test: Grabbed 200pp off my Shammy and purchased the following: 2 Orc Fang Earrings, Wu's Fighting Shirt, Fire Claw Talon, and Polished Steel Ulak. Put 7 points into Ag and dex, 6 points into Sta I made level 6.25 in 3 hours, 21 minutes, H made level 6.4 in 3 hours 23 mins. Reason the times did not finish exactly the same or I did not finish at lev 5.0 was that I was having to much bloody fun to stop. Observations: There was a noticeable difference in the amount of hits taken by the I as opposed to the H. The I could easily take a yellow and on ONE occasion beat a red (sooo close) and at one time had 6 of them dogs (blue) hanging of him, and did them easily, as he was hardly getting hit. The H did not evade the hits as much but could easily take mid yellows, but would die to high yellow, ie red to yellow from previous lev. The huge difference though was the stat increase on the H as oppsed to the I, adding all the stats up there was close to a 20% increase for the H over the Iksar. Conclusion: I do not believe there is, or will be any difference whatsoever between the two. The I has the advantage of quicker regen, but I have read that that can be offset at higher levs with armour as can being night blind, armour problems and faction. What it means to me: 1. Am going to keep playing a monk. 2. They are dead even IMHO. I think the coders have done a brilliant job in ad/disadvantage + and - for these two race choices. Could debate it till the cows come home, but for me, as a lot of the posts have said, they are pretty well even, and one of the most enjoyable characters I have ever played. 3. Am going to play them both in 5 lev increments, as they are both so good to play. Hope it helps a bit, safe roads in both to you all Skystoner, wannabemonk |

Not to rain on your parade but Topic=Dead horse=flogged.
One reason your Iksar can take on higher level MOBs is because of his (or her) regeneration. Once you get past the early stages a 20% exp penalty HURTS. If you group all the time where Regen is moot, then it REALLY hurts. And if you think stats have a noticeable effect on anything other than STA for Hit points and CHA for buying and selling I would recommend you visit: www.interealms.com The one guaranteed penalty for stats is having an AGI < 70. There are a slew of tests over at SC on stat buffs. |

Re: Human v Iksar test In the early game (1-20), untwinked, soloing, Iksar monks can level faster than humans. I've done it almost a dozen times each with humans and iksar. The xp penalty was offset by the lack of downtime on iksar. Since a couple of months ago, when SOE/VI caused all equipment to be soulbound to players less than level 10, it's now possible for either race to solo non-stop to 10, even dying constantly. The difference then becomes the fact that Iksar have curscale armor quests that not only give them nicer armor at lower levels than humans, but also generates a considerable amount of experience at the same time. Iksar regen also allows them to solo mobs that would crush a human everytime. In the higher level game, the xp penalty and the regen balance each other out for a soloing iksar. In groups however, match an iksar up with a human monk and the human will level up faster everytime due to the support factor of a group. In this case the iksar healing factor makes no difference since everyone gets healed. Soloing monks, iksar are superior to humans. Grouped monks, humans win hands down. Zinj |

Point in case. As per the ORIGIONAL message said, and thus did not need all these replies. ONE is JUST AS GOOD as the other. You're not ALWAYS going to solo, and you're not ALWAYS going to group. SHUT UP> Hope keeps the defenders aloft, but courage keeps them in the fight. |
