I need some prayer... I went to the Dr. today, had some x-rays, and my arm isn't fusing (bone growing back together) as fast as he'd like. It's been 2 months since the surgery, and metal is just holding my arm together. While Im gaining range of mobility weekly, I also need this healed!! Thanks. |

prayer Mary How is your arm doing? You don't mention what else your doctor is doing for you. Has your doctor prescribed a bone stimulator for you? If not get another doctor. (orthopaedic)There are two types, one is electronic and the other works like an ultrasound. |

Re: prayer Bone stimulator??? No clue what that is. He is going to xray it again, like the 7th time...on Nov. 7th. He didnt say what he'd do if non-union occured. So I did some research today. Normally, if non-union is present after 6 months post osteotomy then they perform a "step-cut" osteotomy at the former site. That alone with a bone graft taken from the pelvis. I'm REALLY hoping it doesn't come to that. The type of surgery I had has been done by VERY few surgeons. He has done one other. I'm very happy for the work he's done, he's a great doctor. The fact that I'm not healing the way im supposed to isn't his fault. There was a 5-10% chance of non-union of the humerous. The recovery for that would be similar to the recovery im doing now...They'd have to move the tricep, and go through alot of nerves, and remove all the metal and pins they placed in my arm. I REALLY hope they dont have to do this again. Not to mention, the cost. The hospital he did the surgery in is not part of our insurance, and the insurance didn't cover $6,100 of the surgery.

prayer "Bone stimulator??? No clue what that is." It is a device to electronically stimulates the bone to heal. If your doctor is not an orthopaedic surgeon and he has not brought this device to your attention you need to get a second opinion. Most insurances will pay for you to do so before you get more surgery. |

Re: prayer Great, like I want more electrodes. Those really really stink, but I guess less than surgery would. My doctor is one of the best Orthopedists in the state. He specializes in only hands, wrists, and elbows. He went to Harvard and practiced at the Mayo Clinic. His credentials are outstanding. Believe me, I just didn't pick a doctor out of the air to do this surgery. Its almost scary, he's very intelligent, very compassionate, and really good looking...its rare to find the first two attributes in a physician, let alone the third.
