try saving it with the extension and ignoring the bitmap part. so type filename.jpg or filename.gif or filename.png instead of just filename

I'm not absolutely sure that will work, but I believe I had the same problem before and it did, if I was you, I'd upgrade to IE6 though, it only takes about an hour-hour and a half on a 56K, depending on which options you elect to install
