Imhotep
I'm watching a special on the Discovery Channel about Imhotep and I've learned some interesting things. Imhotep really was a high priest and he is the one who had the first pyramid built, which was a step pyramid. It's purpose was supposedly to have served as 'stepping stones' for King Josef to be saved in the eyes of God--he was to walk up to the top of the pyramid where the sun God Re would come and carry him away. Imhotep is now believed to have been a father of modern medicine as well, predating Hepedocles (sp?) by about 2000 years! It has also been discovered that the first successful brain surgery took place in his time and also that the process of mummification was perfected. In 1964, Walter Emmery found a series of catacombs within a pyramid where they found one and a half million mummified irises as well as thousands of mummified baboons which were placed in the pyramid as an offering to Imhotep. However, when they reached the center of the pyramid, the mummy of Imhotep was not to be found. Emmery's quest of unearthing Imhotep's tomb ended with his death in 1969. Various archaeologists continued to search for it...
Anyway, I just thought it was interesting...

Imhotep/Amenhotep
Also, anybody heard of 'Amenhotep IV'? A lot of things he did in history were quite similar to the things that happened in the films. He was a pharoh, and sort of a bit of an evil guy. He changed the whole of Egypts religion, and when he died and everything went back to normal, anything with his name on is was destroyed, because everybody disagreed with what he did so much!
Also, he married somebody called 'Nefititi'. If you remember from 'The Mummy Returns', that was Evy's name in her previous life.
Look up 'Amenhotep IV' on google or something for more information.
