In The Blink Of An Eye...
|| Terror In A Small Town ||
In a town where the population of only 979 it isn't hard to find why the teenagers long to get out. While it isn't small nothing short of gossip has ever happened. That is until the fall of 2004. It left those that had asked for something to happen wishing they hadn't. The large scale natural disaster devistated the town and destroyed a great portion of it. But thats not all the citizens have to worry about. Secrets once well kept are coming out. Some of them made during the disaster. While people try to keep their loved ones close and the happening far from their mind these secrets threaten to create fault lines like no earthquake could. Altering lives forever and threatening to separate the town through shock, even from those uninvolved.
It was Thanksgiving day and Devils Glen was just gearing up for the festitivites. The holiday festival had started and the alumni game was about to start. That's when terror hit the small town. Triggered by an earthquake centered two cities over Devils Glen was ground zero for the biggest natural disaster the United States had yet to personally see. Buildings were destroyed, loved ones lost, and mistakes made. Many were trapped in the lockerroom under the football stadium as they'd prepared to take the field for the game. As the pier crumbled those at the festival desperately ran terrified. All the while the house of Thomas Winchester, founder of the city, seemed menacing even in all its crumbling glory. But only the elderly veterans of the town speak of this curse, the town legend. Everybody else just takes it with a grain of salt.
Parents attempted to find their children, teenagers clung to those friends who were with them searching for those who were not, and people started to emotionally fall apart as their dirty little secrets threatened to spill. Especially those within a well known five people who had weaved a twisted and tangled web between each other and multiple others around them.
November 26, 2004 news stations nationwide spoke of the rarely large scale earthquake/hurricane that had tore through Devils Glen. But which triggered which? Scientists and people alike are confused by this phenomenon never before have two occured at once. The nation sympathized with the 274 people who would now have to take on the task of grieving the loss of mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, and friends. But their hopes and prayers went out to the 247 people unaccounted for but feard and assumed dead within the city. Even more lay injured in hospital beds some clinging to life by a mere thread.
It seems Devils Glen has awakened once more. The town myth coming to life by those vetrans who had survived the hurriquake. But is there really any truth to the legend or is it merely true that it is not for our desires but our design that we fall apart? Only time will tell as the residents struggle to come to terms with what has happened.
In the time it takes to blink changes can occur. Sometimes these changes are welcome and good but more often then not disasterous and bad. In the small town of Devils Glen one this is certain life was changed forever by one hurricane and all it took was the blink of an eye.
