In or out for the winter?
Do you give your hull time to dry out or not? We take Belle Ile out in December sometime and plonk her back in in April. However some say that this is a waste of time and we might be missing some good sailing!
Give it a rest! OUT! The Blueprint has never been left in and has never had a single blister...did have her barrier coated after 19 seasons as a precautionary measure after hearing tales of problems in this regard. These hulls were laid up with relatively high ratios of resin to glass ( at least by todays standards) and I wonder if time out of the water doesn't give them a chance to outgas the styrene in the resin...cure time 30 years???
In or out for the winter?
I generally bring HOPE out one year in three. The hull seems OK having been epoxied in 90/91 but last winter I noticed blisters on the rudder. The latter is said to be more vulnerable to osmosis because ther is no 'dry' side
Blisters & Drying out
Here's a good website about the subject of blisters, etc. from the surveyor's point of view. It's very informative:' www.yachtsurvey.com/blisters.htm
