Internet Trouble
Hello,

Here we go - our family has a Dell PII 450Mhz PC with 256megabites of RAM. We have a Reltek Ethernet Card for ADSL fast internet connection, this is connected through a hub into another PC.

Recently though almost every page doesn't load up, and the children can't connect to games servers or use MSN.
However what strikes me is that Yahoo and certain other pages will load up ok, and up to date. There is no known firewall or anti-virus, but this leads me to believe that the connection is fine, but something is not allowing the P.C. to view things properly. Sort of like an ultra high security setting.

When signing into MSN this error message comes up:

We could not sign you in to MSN MEssenger. It appears you are behind a firewall that does not allow a direct connection to the internet. We tried to sign you in through an HTTPproxy, but your Internet Explorer proxy settings are either missing or incorrect. To adjust your IE proxy settings, click the IE Tools menu, click Internet Options, click the connecitons tab, and then click Lan Settings.

I've done this and the proxy settings are blank, but then so is the other PC which we own and that works fine.

This is very frustrating and the phone support wasn't very good, any help would be very much apprieciated.

Thanks, Good bye

Re: Internet Trouble
Need a bit more information on this one.

Are you using Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing with an ADSL modem usb or internal PCI card in either of the PCs? If so, which PC is connected to the Internet?

Or are you running an ADSL router/switch?

Are you running any kind of Firewall, such as Zonealarm or Norton Firewall?

Check that your Tools/Internet Options/Privacy settings are the same.

Are all the PCs on your network running the same operating system?

Re: Internet Trouble
We have PCI cards in both machines connected to a hub and an ADSL router. There are no firewalls that we are aware of and the settings are almost exactly the same except for the IP addresses.

Thanks for the reply, any help is very much apprieciated.
