I would say no
because you need to kill the Grand Herbalist to get the Herb. I dont know if a amiable rogue could steal the herb from it. mazbe you should try that out.

i was told that the manisi herb part of the quest could be multiquested. but i am not sure of that. maybe someone else could verfy that..

Re: I would say no -> Can Be MQ
This item can be MQ by another player with the herb and the necro with the symbol - it worked for me as of 18th Sep 2002.

Re: Is it possible to get herb in Chardok without killing ?
There is one other way to complete the necro epic quest without having to get the mansi herb and preserve your Chardok faction. But I seriously doubt that way would be any easier. In fact, it's really kind of sucidal if you don't know what you're doing.

What do you need to do? Simple - just go kill Kazem in Lake Rathetear.

Yes, I'm talking about the same Kazem who initially starts you off on your epic quest. But if you are sucessful, you'll not only be able to bypass the need to get a Mansi herb; you'll also cut your quest down by 25% because you'll won't need to kill Sir Edwin Mott and get the Flowing Black Robe neither. Just remember that this shortcut is really risky. I've seen a raiding party made up of 6 groups of 55+ get wiped out by Kazem with 50% of his hpts left. And if any of your raiding party aggros Emkel during the fight, you might as well all kiss your asses goodbye.

So here's what you're going to be looking at when and if you want to try this. Kazem is at least level 60 and a spell caster that can do a 700 AOE nuke. He also has about 20K to 25K in hpts and is 100% magic resistant. And to top it off, he can quad for 1400 points. He doesn't quad for 1400 points all the time, but he does hit for 1400 points quite often.

This is what you'll need. 4 to 5 groups consisting of at least 4-5 level 57+ clerics, 2 warriors level 58+, 2 enchanters level 56+, and 2 shamans level 57+. You can probably do it with 3 groups, but they all better be level 60+ with some pretty uber gear. Why do you need so many clerics? Well, you'll need each and everyone of them as you read on.

Also, don't forget to give everyone DMF or enduring breath so you don't drown if you get feared. I once saw a mage drown when he was feared and ran out into the lake. Funniest thing I've ever saw.

In my fight, I had 4 groups and about 5 clerics. I had the MA and SA buffed to the max and assigned 3 clerics to keep them alive so they can hold agro. (The SA was there tanking with the MA in the begining so that he can hold agro if the MA get feared or killed.) I also had the enchanters keep eye on Emkel during the fight and a group on standby to break off from Kazem and engage the Emkel if the mezes doesn't stick or if he gets aggroed.

Finally, I've instructed all the spell casters not to start casting and no one to assist until the MA and SA had tanked Kazem down pass a little over a bulb of health so they have 100% agro (very important). And if your party has pets, send them in with taunt off. Once the MA and SA has 100% aggro, that was when I called in the general assist.

Kazem is by far the toughest fight of the entire battle. But once he is dead, the 2 spawns (the failed apprentice lvl 44 and the tortured soul lvl 55) will spawn as normal. Once you've killed the tortured soul, it will drop the Symbol of Insanity. And that's your ticket to proceed to the next phase of the quest.

There is one other thing. If you decide to go through this route, you will not get an uber necklace that normally drops during this epic fight. If you want the uber necklace as well, then you'll have to proceed with the quest normally by turning in the mansi herb to Emkel to spawn the Golem, the failed apprentice, and the tortured soul. The golem is the only mob that will drop the necklace.

How do I know if this worked? Because I that's how I got my ducky stick and because I was tired of camping for the mansi herb. I hope this help. Good luck.

Killing Kazen
As of a recent patch killing Kazen is no longer a viable option to completing the quest.
