Kathleen's Wolf
Kathleen, your wolf is coming along wonderfully!
I can't believe this is your first colored pencil work.
I hope you will consider submitting your work to the Challenge gallery when you're finished with it.

Very impressive!
Keep creating

Re: Kathleen's Wolf
Thank you! I'm honored that you want me to submit it to the challenge gallery.

I'll definitely send it when it's complete. I ended up switching to another project...I'm doing a portrait for a gift to a friend, so I think I'll have to finish that first.

Thanks again for the encouragement!

Kathleen's drawing
It comes along very nicely Kathleen. I must admit I never tried this type or style of drawing. I like the drawing very much. Keep it up. :-)

Re: Kathleen's Wolf
I saw this technique explained on Karen Cardinal's website. I thought it would be a good one to try for my first attempt at cp. The technique doesn't let you get caught up in the details too much. It was a great way to just play, get the feel of the medium and how the colors work together, etc.

And most importantly, it's fun!

The only problem is, how do you know when to stop?

I'm very impressed with your replication of his haircoat. The shadings are very natural. Hard to believe this is your first try at both the technique and the medium!

Are you working from a photo? If so, I'd like to see it posted next to your work "On The Easel".

Based on the position of his head, muzzle and the vertical midline of his neck, this is basically a full view portrait. If that is true, his width of the neck should be about equal. The right side of the drawing doesn't seem wide enough. Drawing #2 shows it a little wider than in #3 and the proportion seems more pleasing to me. Just a suggestion. You might be planning on putting something in the forground that i couldn't make out on the scan that would make this a moot point. and i'll be the first to admit my eyes are not what they used to be when looking at these scans on the computer!!!

The way you indicated the snow on his head and ears is PERFECT! Just enough to add to the realism. Made me feel like I had just spied him myself while out in the woods!

Can't wait to see you get back to it. :)
