Looking for web hosting
I'm looking for a hosting solution for my site. I used to host my web at Freedom to Surf, but they aren't free anymore. I don't mind to pay a small fee if I can get PHP/perl/MySQL, and my own domain. Any experiences on this? Do you know at least what providers I should avoid?
Re: Looking for web hostingwww.silentcircuit.com they offer hosting solutions to all that and you can get a domain name I highely reccomend them! they even offer a 99.9% up time...
Re: Looking for web hosting
Thanks for the welcome and the advice, both services look very good. I already knew about freewebspace.net, but I'm glad to hear personal experiences about hosting companies. I'll keep searching and I'll give you my opinions once I finally decide by my future service provider.

I know where you can find the following:
100mb webspace
PHP
mySQL
Perl
CGI
2gb transfer
24/7 support
for only 3.95/month! www.VerseHost.com
Check it out CHEAP!!
Re: Looking for web hosting
Another great site is www.Netfirms.com . They are very reliable, they have CGI-Bin support, and best of all, it is 100% FREE!

Re: Looking for web hosting
My friend and I are looking for web hosting too. We don't know any technical terms, so I don't have a clue what half the stuff up there meant. What we're looking for is a place where we can off-link graphics and it's got to be free. We've been trying to put our banner from our page up at our ezboard site, but since geocities can be a tad stingy with things like that it didn't work so we have to find a new place. So if anyone knows of a site, or knows how to begin a search for such a place please let us know! I can check back here or you can post under opinions/suggestions at bprankstersinc. Thanks a bunch!
THIS IS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION ...
Why not to make a pol ? (or to reserve a place for that subject ?!)
So everybody could give his input about this.
Personaly, I have 2 web pages at One2host ... I won't do it again since service is bad.
Re: Looking for web hosting
What I would really like to read is personal experiences with certain providers. Two messages above were first postings of people with advertisements. I can read about them everywhere, but there's no mention of real sites hosted there or experiences with them.
Anyone? Maybe I'm asking too much, webmasters should be too busy managing their sites to be reading posts in forums.
Re: Looking for web hosting
Hello Armando, personal experiences - well if you are after free webspace then I would recommend www.netfirms.com They offer 25mb of space - ftp access and cgi-bin - although the have banner advertising, they are really reliable - as for paid - well see my thread above
Re: Looking for web hosting
The host I currently use, and intend to continue using, is http://www.flatface.net/
Be wary, though, they are very picky. But they're good nonetheless.
Completely free, 200mb of space, no banner ads or popups, PHP, Perl, CGI, etc. Free SquirrelMail account, FTP accesible. And for their paid plan, $20 US per year, you get 2gb hosting + MySQL, and a load of other things. Check em out, if you wish.
Re: Looking for web hosting
I used to use Network Solutions, then another, then another and finnally I found www.WestHost.com. They seem to be pretty good with all the same stuff everyone else has listed up here. The cost is $7.95 per month for 100 MB and $14.95 a year for domain registration. I have never had a single problem with them in the time I have used them (over three years now). I recently tried Stargateinc.com for webhosting and wanted to blow the building up I was so mad!!!
The major things you need to check on when going for any webhosting place in my opinion is:
*techsupport
*uptime (how many times a month is your site going to be down because of power outages or server problems at the hosting compant)
*do they work with your programs (Are you using flash, realmedia, frontpage, dreamweaver or another program that you need their server to be complant with?)
*price
*traffic (Are you allowed to have unlimited traffic or are you only alloted a certain ammount of data transfer per month? If not what is the price of extra transfer of data?)
Re: Looking for web hosting
I use www.neitsolutions.net They are a little more expensive but their customer service is well worth it. The guy that runs it answers my emails, even stupid ones, within an hour - even late at night. Really helpful for me because I'm really impatient!
They have a $5.95 a month plan but you don't get much for it. I use the $9.95/mo plan, you get:
50 mb space
5 gb bandwidth
25 email addresses
2 subdomains
2 MySQL
2 mailing lists
It says only 1 ftp account, but I have 2 and I've never been charged extra.
