Mesopotamia and South America?
Does anyone here think there is a connection between South American culture and Mesopotamian?
The artwork & architecture of both regions is very similar, and the cultures seem to have revered many of the same natural forces. Even some of the deities are similar.
For instance, I'm a devotee of Inanna, and since the first time I saw/read about Ixchel, the Mayab goddess, I have felt that they were connected, perhaps facets of the same deity. Ixchel, after all, is very similar to "Ishtar", and her husband "Itzamna" has a name similar to "Tammuz." Both of these deities are related to the moon (as are Nanna and Ningal). What if another branch of the culture that became Ubaid, then Sumerian, evolved in another part of the world to become Mayan, Incan, Azteca, etc? This would explain why the language of Sumer/Kiengir is totally unlike Indo-European languages.
These are just some stray thoughts that have been bobbing around in my head Any ideas?
