Yet her own mental prowess paled in comparison to her master. He, incidentally, seemed to be an ageless being. Well versed in history, he had deft hands, a sharp mind, and what appeared to be an eternally youthful body. Morwen could recall vague memories of him easily swinging from parallel bars, or tumbling across his private gymnasium with the grace of a trained acrobat. He could still perform the same feats, apparently, twenty-three years later. Yet his athletic ability was outmatched still by his mental powers. -They had always shared a platonic love, their telepathy endowing them with uncommon understanding, a kind of connection that was more than a guardianship or friendship. But as Morwen entered womanhood, she requited intimacy as well. One night, sedate with too much wine and the heat of their passion, she awoke in an empty house. He had left his fortune behind; his "modest" vault was still crammed with trade bars and bank notes. And while he disdained automobiles, keeping only two out of a strange sentimental value, one of them was gone. Now, Morwen is a quiet and composed woman. Her body is youthful and pliant, but she carries a burden on her soul not meant for someone so young. With a face shadowed by what is naively called "wisdom", Morwen searches for her mentor.
