Muddle Earth RPG
Sunsets in the Smokies are a beautiful sight...it was a pity that Amy couldn't see it. Storm clouds had rolled in that afternoon and didn't bother to go anywhere. At the moment, Amy was fiddling around with the dials on her car radio trying to find a station that wasn't country or pop songs from two summers ago. Her red jeep wrangler was speeding down the interstate past the hitch-hikers and abandoned shoes. Giving up on the radio, Amy returned her full attention to the road, passing the people from Grainger County. Amy hated drivers from Grainger County. They always seemed to travel at the grand speed of two and god-forbid they pull over so you can pass.

Amy took a quick glance at her clock, she was going to be a little late picking up Alix. Not that they were going anywhere special, Her, Alix, and Cwen were going to head over to Aiko's house to watch a movie. Amy was is charge of bringing soda and it was rolling around on the floor in the back. The rain had just started as Amy pulled up Alix's driveway. Amy blew the horn twice and waited for Alix to make her grand appearance. While waiting, Amy resumed her attempts to find a decent radio station...

Aiko Konoe
Aiko took a bottle of water out of the refrigerator. She took a drink and set the bottle down on the counter. The black-haired girl opened up the top cabinet and reached up towards the top, trying to take down microwave popcorn. As she reached up, the bottom of her tanktop rose, showing the bottom of the "Jounetsu" Kanji on her lower back.

"I still do not know why you got that thing," her mother's voice said disapprovingly as she entered the kitchen.

"Yamette, Maki," Aiko said, exhasperated already. "Cwen, Alix and Amy are coming over to watch a movie."

"Is that so?" Maki said, busying herself in the kitchen.

"Mother," Aiko said, "This is my apartment. My friends are coming over. I would like some privacy?"

Her mother looked back at her for a second, then seemed to decide that it was not worth a struggle. She gathered up her bags and said good-bye to Aiko, leaving the apartment and walking down the street on her way home. Aiko watched her mother leave, then went back to the kitchen and climbed on the counter, taking down the popcorn. She put it on the counter, preparing it for when the girls came over.

Aiko thought she saw movement out of the corner of her eye outside of the kitchen. She turned, but there was nothing there. She wandered into the living room to investigate. There was still no sign of any unusual disturbance. The Amazon.com box holding the newly-sent DVD. Aiko took out a scissor from her desk and cut the box open. She pulled the interior out and looked at the decorations on the large outer box of the DVD set.

Aiko went around the couch and put the box on top of the television. She went to her window and looked out at what would be a setting sun. Instead she faced ominous storm clouds oozing slowly as far as the eye could see. She saw a flash of lightning, and she flinched. Aiko swore at the bad weather, and looked down the street, not sure what she was looking for.

That was not true. She was looking for the red jeep Amy was driving to bring Alix and Cwen to the apartment. However, she knew they would not be this early. Aiko still had a while before the others got there.

The screensaver glittered invitingly to Aiko and she wandered over to her laptop. She went online and made her way over to The Council of Elrond. She logged in and clicked on "Lesson 15 - Mixed Conjugation Verbs" and read through it quietly.

Crash! Clunk! Aiko heard a grunt from the apartment upstairs as someone apparently dropped something, startled by the sudden thunder. She left her computer, opened the door, and went out into the hallway. The stairway clunked as Aiko climbed the stairs to the next floor.

"Are you all right?" she asked, stopping at the door from which the grunt had come. Aiko, recently moved into this apartment, did not know who lived around her.

A young man of about twenty-two opened the door. He had sandy short hair and gray eyes. He was about six feet tall and very thin.

"Yeah...fine," he said. "Hey, you're new, right?"

"Yeah," she said, "I'm Aiko."

"David," he said. They shook hands. "Nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you," Aiko said. "I'll see you around?"

"Sure," David said. He shut the door and Aiko looked at the door for a second. She brought her hand up and adjusted her silver earrings and made sure her black nose stud was in properly before going back downstairs.

Aiko reentered her apartment and went back to her computer, printing out the lesson and the workbook page. The thunder crashed outside and the rain began to fall morosely.

Re: Alix Gallagher
Alix pulled the hood of her green sweatshirt up over her head and grabbed the shoulder strap of her duffel before dashing out into the rain. She could hear Amy pounding on the horn even through the thunderstorm.

"I'm coming, I'm coming," she muttered under her breath.

It had been a while since Alix had been able to hang out with her friends. She usually spent her time either working at the tiny bookshop down the street, or climbing at the rock wall. She was looking forward to tonight. Especially since Aiko had the new Extended LOTR DVD.

jeep
The jeep door swung wildly open and a rather wet Alix sat down into the seat next to her. The wind had picked up and Amy still had to pick Cwen.

"Fall off a boat?" Amy asked, shifting the jeep into reverse and backing out of Alix's drive.

"Well, aren't you just oh so funny..." Alix said, flipping the heater on and tossing her duffel into the backseat.

"Yeah, that's my job," said Amy, off-handly, not really paying attention, pulling onto the main road and speeding up.

"Call Cwen and make sure she's ready...I'm already running late, I'm sure Aiko will bite my head off." Amy added pointing down at her grey backpack. The front pocket was open and a cell phone was sticking out.

It took five rings before Cwen located the phone, which had rolled underneath the sofa. She picked it up, and pushed the talk button. "Hi, this is Cwen."

"Hey, this is Alix. Amy and I are headed your way."

"Finally," Cwen said with a chuckle. "What's been keeping you guys? I've been waiting..."

"I know, I know. The road's are awful, so just be ready, 'k?"

"Right. I'll see you guys soon." Cwen stood up, padded over to the kitchen, and placed the phone back in its cradle. Now maybe I'll be able to find you when someone calls

The rain had gone from slight to pelting beofre Alix had ended the call.

"D*** it." Amy muttered as she turned off the main road and onto Cwen's road. Cwen had decided that her residence shoulf be in the most god-forsaken part of the world. Rain certainly didn't make things better.

"Next time, she's meeting us somewhere." Amy said looking over to Alix.

"Yeah," Alix replied, looking out the window, "She said she was ready."

"good."

They pulled into the drive and Amy blew the horn.

Aiko Konoe
Long lost words whisper slowly to me
Still can't find what keeps me here...

Crash!

Aiko crossed over to her stereo and turned it up in an attempt to drown out the storm as she sat at her computer. She looked at the Banana Republic Store page, pondering her next purchase. A while ago her Elvish studies had grown tedious, so she decided to shop a little bit. Aiko hoped the others would arrive soon so that they could watch the DVD. For some odd reason, the statues of the Argonauth that she now put at either side of her computer appeared to be watching her every move. Something about the new box also seemed almost alive.

Aiko scolded herself for these childish thoughts. It was long ago that she was last frightened by rainstorms. Now, at times, she nearly enjoyed the green of stormclouds and the purity of the rain that fell. However, on this night, the combination of the box, the storm, and the music were almost too much for her. Perhaps she could use that environment for writing?

Aiko closed the Banana Republic window and went into Microsoft Word. She sat for a time looking at the blank screen that reflected her mind back to her in brilliant insult. Finally, she closed her eyes and just listened to the music for a time.

Don't say I'm out of touch
With this rampant chaos - your reality...

Crash!

Aiko jumped with such force that her chair went sliding back, and she found herself on the floor, looking around in a fair amount of bewilderment. Here she remained for a time, again absorbed in the atmosphere of the evening. It was a time that anything could happen, her mother used to say. Her mother always seemed to enjoy frightening her with such things as a child. Aiko never admitted that her mother scared her, though, with her tales of dragons and the like. The Hobbit was one of the first books her mother read to her with dragons that did not frighten her.

I lie awake and try so hard
Not to think of you...

Aiko snorted with the irony of the words coinciding with her thoughts. The girl rose again and went into the kitchen. She took down a glass then went into the freezer for some ice. Then she took out a Coke and filled the glass.

A gentle bump came from the new neighbor upstairs. Aiko looked up and smiled a bit as though the boy could see her. She returned to the living room and turned up the stereo even higher. Perhaps David would come and complain of the noise. Then she'd at least have someone to talk to.

Hello I'm your mind giving you
Someone to talk to
Hello...

The world was full of ironies that evening. Another crash erupted. This time, the lightning arrived at the same time as the thunder. The storm was right over Aiko's apartment. The music blared along with the storm. Aiko poured more soda, watching the bubbles as they dissipated. She wondered where the other three girls were.

The walls felt as though they were closing in on Aiko. She ultimately crossed to the windows, opening them wide, not caring if the rain splashed into the windowsill a bit. The girl leaned out of the window and looked up and down the empty street in the rain. The shadow of evening had just begun to fall, so the green of the stormclouds seemed a tad greyer. The smell of the rain filled Aiko's nostrils. The lights of the occasional car reflected on the wet street.

Fallen angels at my feet
Whispered voices at my ear
Death before my eyes
Lying next to me I fear...

Aiko pulled her head back in, leaving the window open. She would hear if a car pulled up in front of her street. Therefore, she would know the second the other three girls arrived. She sat as she listened to the Bonus Track, a remix of one of the other songs. When the last notes faded away, she stood up and pressed Play again, listening to the CD again. Aiko layed down on the couch with a blanket over her, closed her eyes, and listened to the juxtaposition of the music and the sounds of the storm outside her open window, waiting for the other girls to arrive.

Amy drummed her fingers across the top of the steering wheel.

"I thought she was ready?" Amy said

"Me too." Came Alix's reply as she looked through the rain covered window.

"I should have the new Norah Jones CD on the floor over there on the floor, this rain is driving me crazy," Amy said as she twisted around in her seat to grab a pop out of the back.

oops
The loud beep of a horn startled Cwen out of her book. She put her paperback down and pulled open the curtains to look out the window. Through the pouring grey rain, she saw the dim outline of a jeep. Wonder how long they've been waiting? Grabbing her coat and duffel bag, she jammed her shoes on, and headed for the door.

"Hope you weren't waiting long," Cwen said to Amy. Norah Jones was pouring out of the speakers.

"Not that long," replyed Amy as she put the jeep into reverse, causing the tires to throw up a spray of mud.

Aiko's
The jeep sped through the rain toward Aiko's. They were already a half hour late.

"Amy! Slow down!" Cwen said. She hated it when Amy drove fast, even when it wasn't raining.

"Oh, we're not going that fast..." Amy said

The jeep continued on til it arrived in front of Aiko's apartment.

"Alright, thank you for traveling Smith Jeep Services please return your seats to the full and upright postion, step briskly out of the jeep and into the next great flood." Amy said as she got the pop and pulled the keys out of the ignition.

The rain was icy and Amy was glad that someone bringing in groceries had been careless and dropped a can of green beans, edging the front door open. The girls quickly ran into the building's foyer.

"Well, I'm all nice and wet." Amy said as thunder boomed outside...

Re: Aiko's
Alix grinned as she hoisted her duffel higher on her shoulder. "Well, everyone needs an adventure once in a while," she said. Cwen laughed.

"Race you upstairs!" Alix called before taking off, leaving Amy and Cwen struggling far behind her.

Alix stopped at Aiko's apartment door, and began to knock loudly. Finally, Aiko came to the door, looking kind of confused.

"What's wrong?" Alix asked.

"I'm just having kind of a weird day," Aiko explained, opening the door wide to let Alix in. "I think I'm seeing things."

"Hm. Well, how about we see that LOTR DVD!"

"Where's Cwen and Amy?"

"Here!" Amy called as she and Cwen finished climbing up the stairs. "Has anyone beat our time?"

"Nope. You three are the only ones here yet. We can wait a while before starting the movie, though."

Aiko Breathes Again...
Aiko had been laying on the couch when she heard the car pull up in front. She heard shouts that could only belong to Cwen, Alix, and Amy. The clock read that they were half an hour late.

Once the girls were inside, Aiko fetched the wet girls some towels, then put up water for hot tea in the hopes of warming the three up. The three girls dried off thankfully with the towels. They talked merrily as Aiko went into the kitchen to prepare the tea for each one of them. She put the tea in shiny blue mugs with comforting, snow-white speckles on them. Once the tea was prepared, she brought the mugs in, two at a time.

"So, can we see the DVDs before the others get here?" Cwen asked as she took the tea from Aiko graciously.

"Sure. Right over here," Aiko said, fetching the box with the DVDs and other inclusions.

As the girls looked inside the box and spoke merrily, Aiko felt a jovial spirit enter the apartment. The ominous sensations of before vanished, replaced only by the joy of her friends and their observances regarding the box and its contents. Aiko dropped down onto the couch and pulled her feet up under herself, holding her much with both hands and feeling very thankful that she was no longer alone that night. Soon she found herself smiling and laughing with the girls as well, her fears nearly forgotten.

Jade Enters the Scene
"Oh crap! Oh crap! Oh crap!" Jade yelled as she sped down the highway in her black civic. "Aiko's gonna kill me!"

Jade turned off at the exit, and sped down the street to where Aiko lived. She skid on some water as she turned into the parking lot, and squeeled as she slid to a stop.
"Maybe I won't drive so fast next time," Jade told herself, as she grabbed her purse and coat. She jumped out of her car, and ran to the building, holding the coat over her head. She ran up the steps and stopped infront of the door, and pounded on it.

"Looks like Jades, here, late as usual," Aiko said to the others as she stood up, and went to answer the door.

"Sorry I'm late," Jade replied with a sheepish grin.

Aiko just shrugged and let her in.

"Oh! Legolas!" Jade gushed as she ran over and plopped herself down next to Amy.

Re: Movie begins
Alix sipped her tea, letting its warmth unfreeze her bones.

"You know that Boromir was the coolest, right?" she asked, dodging a pillow thrown by Jade.

"No, Legolas all the way!" Jade insisted.

Alix threw the pillow back, thwacking Jade firmly in the face. That was it. Jade grabbed a pillow off of the couch and jumped on Alix, thwacking her repeatedly.

Pippin!
"Don't think so!" Amy shouted vaulting from the couch, into the fray, couch pillow in hand, "Pippin rocked Lord of the Rings!" and shortly thereafter a pillow made contact with both Jade and Alix. Jade jumped up.

"Ah, a challenge then?"

"Indeed" Amy exclaimed getting quickly to her feet. Jade swung quickly, catching Amy off guard. The pillow got her right in the face. Amy weaved to the side and then got Jade back on the side of the head.

pillow fight!
Cwen watched Amy, Jade, and Alix whack each other with pillows, each yelling various characters from Lord of the Rings. She turned to Aiko and said, "You know, Merry was really..." but didn't get any further then that as a particularly vicious swing from Jade smacked the side of her head. "Ow!" she said peevishly. "Can't you keep it to yourselves?"

Aiko grinned at her from where she was sitting with her mug. "Don't be such a spoilsport Cwen. Where's your sense of fun?"

"Probably sitting outside in the pouring rain," replyed Cwen, rolling her eyes. Just as she finished her sentence, she was bowled over by another swing of a pillow. "Alright, that's it." Picking up the nearest pillow, she charged into the battle. "For the Shire!"

LEGOLAS!
"FOR LEGOLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!!" Jade screamed as she launched a pillow at Alix and Cwen, before jumping on top of them with laughter. Amy, feeling left out, pulled Aiko's arm, and they both collapsed into the mass of flailing body parts, and hysterical laughter.

None of the girls noticing their movie left behind in the background...

pizza
Amy managed to detangle herself for the pile and crawled over to the phone.

"I'm ordering sustenance! What does everyone want on the pizza?"

"Vegetarian!"

"5-Meat Feast!" came two replies. Amy rolled her eyes and called up Little Caesar's, the poor man's pizza parlor.

Amy called in the order, 2 larges one with cheese the other with pepperoni. The melee seemed to have ended, Jade sauntering into the kitchen area.

"Did you bring anything to drink?"

"I said I would" Amy said opening up her container of soda, "They need ice though."

The Ice Man
The loud thump on the front door echoed through the rooms. Almost everyone froze, everyone but Aiko. With a smile she traisped over to let her friend in.

The tall young man had to stoop a bit to enter into the house. He looked like something out of a motorcycle/heavy metal magazine, except for the gloss. Grime and dust from the road clung to his leather and jeans apparel.

"My friends, this is Alex!" Aiko introduced.

"Hullo, All." Alex replied, gruffly, his long dark hair was tied in a loose pony tail and his rugged features wore a week's stubble and weariness. Though he was only twenty, it seemed as if all the weight of the world rested on his broad shoulders, and did he need this rest and relaxation. "Aiko, it is good to see you again, girl."

"And you too, big guy."

"Not that we don't appreciate your company, Alex," Jade piped up, "But everyone invited has to bring something for this little party. How about you?"

Reaching into his back-pack, the brooding giant held out a large paper bag. "I brought ice!"

Jade took the offered bag of ice, and flashed a smile before taking the ice over to Amy in the kitchen.

"He's cute," Jade murmered to Amy.

"He is indeed," Amy nodded in agreement.

Jade poured herself some Mountain Dew, and walked back into the living room, plopping herself down next to Alix. The two girls looked at each other, and grinned.
