OK I do not usually write these but since I was asked and the other was lost I am re writing it. MY REVIEW OF THE GI Joe A Real American Hero DVD Ok like many of you I was ecstatic about the news of Kid Rhino putting out a new DVD, for months there were rumors on Message Boards of what it was and about. Finally it showed up and then when we all said “YES!” I will get it, they threw us a curve. Yes they were going to put a special edition of the DVD.. OH NO MORE CHOICES! After much mulling and deciding I finally gave in and ordered . I was hoping that it was worth the extra $10.00 I went to Amazon.com they have it for $35.99. (they had a special on shipping anything over $25.00 is free) I sat and waited and a few days later those magic words showed up on my screen in the email section .”You order has been shipped” I could not wait. The mailman rang the door bell. IT WAS HERE! I ran with my letter opened to the door. There it was. The little brown box with the cute smiley face. I stood there in awe. I thought gone were the days of the scratchy and bad coloring on VHS even when you bought it brand new. Gone were the days of the tape wearing out from watching it too much. I opened the box and took it out. The first thing you see is it is in a clear cover case. It has Duke and Lady Jaye on the bottom and Destro and Cobra Commander up top as you look at it. With the traditional GIJoe banner down the side of the front with a section that is clear that you can see in the box. On the back of the case is a picture of Destro with his arms crossed and a little bit about the movie. That is where you see the figure of snake eyes. I took off the saran wrap outer layer and had to then get through the goofy security tape.( might I say that slows me down every time) After you pull it out of the box and open it you see that it is a trifold box. The artwork is spectacular. On the inside cover is a great picture of Stormshadow with a cobra trooper. On the back cover is a great picture of several more cobra troopers. When you open it all the way there is a disk on either side, and in the middle is where you find the Snake eye’s figure and a Chapter index and note book. The disks have pictures on them. One has Duke and lady jaye and Two has Destro and Cobra Commander on it. Which I found to be a nice touch. OK After seeing what I got I realized that this was Well worth the $10.00 extra. The figure sold me on it. Snake eyes is great he is the 1985 version. He comes with binoculars, Uzi, sword, backpack and his pal timber. This is the only other time he has been issued with the wolf since the characters came into production. The only downfall is that he is dark blue.( I like him in black better) So I will give him a 9.5 out of a 10. I went to play the first disk, the colors were crisp and clear from the beginning. I was so happy. I was starting to think back to the time of childhood sitting on the floor and eating Honeycomb awaiting for the bus to take me to school. I ran to the kitchen to get a bowl of cereal. (this time it was frosted mini wheat’s )I was set it was just like old times. On Disk one you get: A Real American Hero The Cobra Strikes Slave of the Cobra Master The worms of Death Duel In the Devil’s Cauldron And A Stake in the Serpents Heart Before you start you also get a great choice you can choose from surround sound or stereo. I find this interesting as it helps enhance your Joe experience. I started to watch you can like other DVDs skip to different scenes if you like or watch it all the way through. The colors like I said were crisp and clear the voices clear and the storyline just like from your childhood. I give it a 10 out of 10. There is also a special feature on disk one. I recommend watching it as it has a lot of information about how Joe came about. It is a interview with Marv Wolfman. He is the creator of Quick Kick and the story “Lasers in the night.” In another series he was the creator of “Blade” He said in the beginning that the cartoon was about the characters, not about selling toys. If that happened in time great but it was more about the individual character. His showing of this is his description of the story “Lasers in the night” he called it a Love story that became a GI Joe story. I also loved the way he described the Baroness as “ A sex toy, a object, a plaything.” Like I said before for a good insight of his ideas I highly recommend watching the interview. I give disk 1 a 10 out of a 10. Before watching the second disk I went to look at the book that came with the DVD. It does give a break down of the disks and what is on them but also gives a little history on the history of GI Joe not only the cartoon but the toy line in general which was fascinating to say the least as there were things I did not know about the history stated in the book. So I give the book a 9.5 out of 10(just cause I am greedy and want more, wishing there were more pictures. Overall it was a great read) After a rest I went to Disk 2. After disk one I knew there was not going to be any problem. I grabbed a sandwich and once again sat on the floor awaiting the moment of being taken back in time to watch one of the greatest cartoons ever made .(at least to me) On disk 2 you get the same great option of either stereo or surround sound.. You get The Revenge of Cobra In the Cobra’s pit The Vines of Evil The palace of Doom Battle on the roof of the world Amusement Park of terror Once again the colors are crisp and the voices are clear, so much that on both cases of the series it was better watching it now then when it was on TV. The overall quality of the pictures were a 10 out of 10. There is also a bonus here too it is a interview with Ron Friedman. Which is also highly recommended. All in all I do give this DVD a 10 out of 10 for any avid GI Joe fan of the cartoon as it will not disappoint you. Thanks For reading medic PS - if this is any indication of how the future sets will be I am a sure buyer and can’t wait till the rest come out./
