Myths and Folk Lore I am just wondering if anybody has heard any myths or read any folk lore on daemons. Like one of the original daemons Tiamat (I think that is how you spell it) or Lilith... hell even as far as Lucifier. Just looking for stories, dreams, history... Re: Myths and Folk Lore
What type of thigns are you looking for Reznor? Things based from the Judeo-Christian back drop or the Muslim? Actually if you are looking for a set of stories that haven't been perverted by the modern religions I recommend Shinto and other Asiatic pre-Mongolian occupation stories and tales.

Re: Myths and Folk Lore I was basically looking for anything interesting. Nothing especially "real" or anything. I know I am not one who wants secrets revealed, but I was curious about the stories and myths that went along with demons. I have a book, called "A Field Guide to Demons, Faries, and Fallen Angels" and it has a number of interesting stories. I might post a couple of them. Do you remember any one off the top of your head that you think is particular interesting? Is it a common problem for religions to pervert stories on demons? Thank you for the suggestion, I will look those up! Always interested in a good story... Reznor "The only thing I fear, is not being worthy of my sufferings." (Viktor Frankl) |

Re: Myths and Folk Lore For some reason, I do not believe that tales of Daemons can be quite.. perverted. *Laughs* Are not we enough so as it is? One of the only mistakes that I truly see prevalent within the Judeo-Christian tales {just as one specific example- all is much broader than just this} as concerns Daemons are that some beings that are not actually Daemonic are claimed as being such. Surely, these particular beings could share some Daemonic *traits* at times.. but anything which is of a dark, negative nature could be construed as Daemonic to some degree. The other mistake is that such tales tend to paint us in a weakened light, even if we are portrayed as strong and powerful beings. We are underestimated to a very great degree. There is no mistake that the Daemon Race is {or, at least, CAN be and often IS} a race which consists of extreme violence and darkness. There is no misconception in that respect- the misconception lies in how some beings that are NOT quite Daemonic are portrayed as such and that we are seen as beings that can 'always be beaten'; if only it were so simple. Marquise is right, though. The Daemonic Tree, as it were, is extremely broad and extremely ancient. "'What has a Daemon to fear of Hell?' asked Drackusis of the Priest..." |

Re: Myths and Folk Lore (Drackusis, I wanted to tell you that your icon symbol thing is pretty damn cool!) I was wondering about the Daemonic Tree being so large because how much is true? Or, how much should be taken as such. I would assume it is better to read all there is or at least as much as one can and compile their own understanding. For example, I was reading about an ancient Asian daemon that was the cause for the creation of the surface of Earth. I wish I could remember the name though. Let me check my reference and I will post about it. As for being easily beaten. I would think that is a fairly common tale since we are, as you mentioned Drackusis, often associated with extreme violence and darkness. Good is suppose to win over evil, isn't that the way life is *suppose* to be? I think it is also fairly common for beings to be misunderstand and simply labeled daemons if they are, or are not. It seems like that is the case with Judeo-Christian references where everything bad or evil instantly becomes daemonic. "The only thing I fear, is not being worthy of my sufferings." Re: Myths and Folk LoreQuote: I thank you. Quote: Indeed. I would say that a large majority of the lore in concerning Daemons is indeed very true, while perhaps some of it is not quite accurate or is taken to a literal extreme.. which brings me to this: Quote: This could be seen as more symbolic than literal, or seen as perhaps true to a limited degree. Remember, many such tales 'belong' to and or are known by the people of a certain land that may only know of *their* particular land. Such is only natural. Mayhap a Daemon *did* create some form of land long ago? Mayhap the Great Holy Flood as spoken of in Holy Scriptures truly occurred, but only within a certain region? The possibilities are endless and the World is ANCIENT. A thought to ponder, that. Quote: To some it is indeed. *Laughs* Unfortunately for such people.. this is not how the Universe *IS*. Quote: This is just paranoia in action, and I do not believe that it is necessarily limited to those of light. I could just as easily scream "ANGEL! ANGEL!" at a passing Christian on the road, but that would not mean that they are that. "'What has a Daemon to fear of Hell?' asked Drackusis of the Priest..." |

Re: Myths and Folk Lore One of my favorite stories was of an old pre-Mongolian Chinese demon. He took a human female lover and agreed to keep her young and ever alive as long as she wore a specil pendant. It was a large tear drop shaped pearl but unique in color it was the faintest pink color but ofr the center that was a pure deep gray. It was set in buttery gold to make it look like an eye and hung round her neck. The clasp of the necklace was sharp so that the demon (who opted to live in he necklace to insure her immortality) could drink of her blood and life in order to survive. According to the fable after the woman lived for nearly 200 years she met a man she loved and took of the necklace. The demon was trapped in the necklace and was furious. Every woman who tried to wear it after suffered neck injuries and if they did not rid themselves of the necklace suffred dementia and died of illness. I used to have a picture of a drawing of the necklace. It was supposedly contained by a sorceror in the 1200s who took special parchment and specially created ink made of blood and bound in the center of the bundle with the telling of a powerful spell then buried under a fire urn to another powerful god. But the story remained, more as a testament to vanity and the price for loving a demon. =^..^= |
