Need Auto Pilot Info For 1973 F32
I own and fish a 1973 F32 primarily in the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. I often fish by myself and if the wind is up, it is difficult to maintain a heading while putting out lines and tending to hooked fish. I am very interested in purchasing an Auto Pilot for this boat. I have had it for one year and from what I understand, it is not hydraulic but rather shaft and gear box. I would prefer a Simrad Auto Pilot as I use their GPS and Depth finder. However, Simrad is not essential. Any information or guidance you may provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You,
Jim

Re: Need Auto Pilot Info For 1973 F32
I have owned a 1975 F-32 for six years now. MY boat had manul steering until a short time ago. My boat had a hydrolic auto pilot when I got the boat. The two systems did not work well together. I would change out your steering system first then add your auto pilot.
Any estimate on what this will cost me? I am comfortable with the current steering but I was anticipating that I might have a compatability problem. Your input is appreciated.

The system that I installed was by hyanautic. I believe parts were about $1600. I did the install myself. The install would be easy, except Trojan did not build the helms with this install in mind. Both helms had to be beefed up to support the new helms. Great system though. I thought my mechanical steering was tight until I tried the new system. Good luck.
