Neverland Information
-Information-
Neverland.
Barrie described Neverland as "more or less an island with astonishing splashes of colour here and there" with lush jungles (with at least one sugar cane field), coral reefs, and magical beaches. Neverland is "most compact" and small, since if it was large, there would be too much distance between adventures. Other features of Neverland include the mermaid lagoon (with marooner's rock), the Lost Boys' trees, a village of natives and the Jolly Roger, a pirate ship.
When Peter is not there, the island is quiet. The fairies sleep in, the beasts attend their young, the natives feast and when "pirates and lost boys meet they merely bite their thumbs at each other".
However, when Peter returns the whole of Neverland awakens. Wat becomes its heart beat and everything on the island is ready for anything.
The Groups
Lost Boys - the only group that doesn't want blood (they only like it as a rule). Led by Peter Pan, they vary in numbers, as they are killed or seem to group up. Wearing the skins of animals they've killed, they are boys who've fallen out of their prams and weren't claimed. They all are armed and they live in the house under ground with Peter, John and Micheal. Wendy, however, lives in the little house made of leaves deftly sewn together. Six lost boys are mentioned in the book (Tootles, Nibs, Slightly, Curly, and the twins) though you can create more. The personality of the Lost boys are mentioned in Chapter Five- The Island come True.
Pirates- The pirates are always looking for the lost boys. They are all under the command of Captain James (Jas.) Hook. Their names include; Cecco (the handsome Italian), Bill Jukes (every inch of him tattooed), Cookson, Gentleman Starkey, Skylights, Noodler, Robt. Mullins, Alf Mason and the Irish bo'sun Smee (who has a lovely name for everything). Their personalities, and a lovely description of Hook is also in Chapter Five.
The Piccaninnies- The natives that hunt the pirates. Their leader is Great Big Little Panther (or just Panther works...) and the only other one mentioned in this group (though there are sure to be MANY others) is Tiger Lily, the dangerous Diana of the island.
The Fairies- Though Tinker Bell is the only one named, we know that many, many fairies exist on Neverland. They mostly tease the lost boys. Fairies are so small, that they only have room for one emotion at a time, they change but it is always a complete change.
Mermaids- It's much easier to think of them as a siren/mermaid mix. They are only friendly to Peter Pan and only speak to him (they have their own language). They spend most of their time in Mermaid Lagoon, sitting on Marooner's Rock combing their hair. If anyone else tries to go near them as they sit or play, they will swim away to their homes, underwater. However, they are known to drown people.
Others- Notable others on Neverland include the beasts, the Crocodile (a female, ever searching for Hook's life) and the Neverbird, of which Peter had saved her eggs, and then in exchange the Neverbird saved Peter's life. Now all the Neverbirds make hat-shaped nests like her's. (Peter had used Starkey's hat as a nest for her).
