New Birding Center?
Has anyone heard how the birding center is going? I havn't noticed any development at their site lately. I am not a birder but I will be the first to admit that, wheather you beleive it or not, birding brings a lot of money into our community and stands to bring in a lot more with the completion of the birding center. Is it still in the works?
Well I hope that they didn't drop the ball on the new bird center. I also noticed that there was not much being done. It is a wonderful hobby for retirees, and i agree that it will bring in money and tourisam to our county.
New Birding Center?
I haven't found anything on the internet about what progress has been made with the birding center. You would think there would be something about it somewhere. What I have found so far is a site that shows an application for a grant to make a web page for the birding center (item #20):
Birding Center
Here is another site about the birding center. It looks like it was made by some of the students involved in designing it. There are lots of pictures of the proposed site and the main building, along with a cost analysis of the project. http://www.geocities.com/HotSprings/5897/30504final.htm
Birding Center Construction Soon? According to the an article in the Tribune today, the construction of the birding center will begin soon, with a fall opening projected.
A Bay City engineeering firm, Testengeer Inc. has been hired to build it.
Birding Center
Sounds like it will not be to long before they get started with the project. That will help Bay City with the tourists who come for bird watching. They Where talking about Rockport hummer festival on one Natureweb.com and how tons of people go to see them evey year. Maybe, people will talk about us like that.
Re: Birding Center - Update
According to the Matagorda Advocate, the funding for Phase 1 of the center is covered. The Birding and Nature Center is now seeking tax-deductible donations for Phase 2 from individuals and businesses to match a $750,000 grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife.
The deadline for the grant application is July 31.
This is the first I've heard of this. I try to keep up with it in the news, but there hasn't been much about it lately.
Does anyone know if there are going to be any fundraisers for this? Maybe if the deadline was later in the year, they could have gotten the local schools involved in it, maybe something like the "Pennies For Playgrounds" fundraiser they have in Houston. Any ideas?
