New Cars & Drivers for 2006
It's a bit quite on the Forum at the moment, and my work e-mail is down(!) So I thought I should ask the question that we always seem to churn out at this time of year:
What New Cars & Drivers do we know of for 2006?
Include returnees to the various comps, new builds that are ready to come out in anger, rumour and inuendo!
I will start with:
Victoria, Two returnee drivers with similer spec cars, very well known at a national level. New Turbo 4WD rides, one finished, the other still being built. Will be at the front end.
I have helped Rob Wilson in Vic with a new Motor for his Suzuki, the first time we have ever run one that has anything more than Cams and a computer, it is already up 10 kW at the wheels from the best we ever saw from our old motors, and it is not run in yet.
Also me(!) I haven't run since April last year... so I guess that counts as a return! My car will be returning with a new Gearbox and hair drier, and a fair bit of suspension refinement, so it better be faster, moving up from last to 75% of the way down the field would be nice!
Re: New Cars & Drivers for 2006
OK I'll throw my 0.2c worth in here ...
I have taken the plunge and after 8 years in Sports Sedans (and two years on the sidelines) I am building a car (my first attempt - a Honda Civic EG6 Hatch imported from Japan with the help of Geoff Fear & SSS Automotive) which I have entered for Round 1 at Wakefield Park in Under 2 Litres.
Will the car be finished? Interesting question - if I retain my sanity (albeit with an empty bank account) I'll be there
Probably run last as engine development (DOHC VTEC 1595cc) is taking a back seat to the basics (safety equipment, radiator upgrade, suspension upgrades, headers and race exhaust - mostly bolt-on stuff at the moment).
Have the rollcage paperwork but still need to have a pre-race inspection to apply for a log book. I'm assured by CAMS PMATTA that this will only take a day or so once they have all the paperwork
Major items are to install front and rear suspension (when it comes back from Noltec this week), electrical wiring and battery, ecu install, and a lick of paint.
I have most items (seat, harness, fire extinguisher etc) waiting to go in. All I need then is a set of tyres
So if you see me at Wakefield Park (Car No.35, Carports 1,2 and 3) come and say hello.

Infotech - 6 weeks to go, or maybe I shouldn't remind you, good plan, get on track first things first.

Re: New Cars & Drivers for 2006
Well as a sign of good faith, Ironically I sent my entry off today for my Torana's first meeting. I havent been out since EC Rd 6 2004. It will be baby steps for the car as it sits at the moment. All I hope to do is finish each race and see where I end up...2006 will be a development year. The thing is quick in a straight line, no problem...its the brakes and handling which still need refining. Not to mention coming to grips with such a huge power increase. See ya at WP.

All the best with the Torana Pete. Ashley is talking about giving the Corona a run at WP. If that occurs I may come down for a look. Cheers Dave.

Hi folks. My name is Anthony McDonald and have been visiting this forum for a couple of years now to keep up with whats going on with Improved Prod Racing. Always find it an interesting read. I`ve spectated and pitcrewed for many years and absolutely love the sport! So finally I`ve managed to do something about jumping the fence and having a go on the track. Late last year I bought Phillip Cash`s Gemini and intend to run it this year at at least 3 or 4 rounds. Most people in the under 2lit class would know the car as its been around for a long time I believe. Unfortunately I won`t make WP but will definately be at EC. As for competitivness I`ll probably be thrashing it out with Pete from Infotechplus for second last and last place!!!!
Re: New Cars & Drivers for 2006
Well I have sent my entry form in for WP and am comitted to be there as my parts supplier/car setup advisor here in Japan is coming over for the weekend to watch me race and pit crew for me. All I have to do is get back into Australia (if I dont get deported before hand) early march for some minor tuning on my car.

You can count me and my red rx7 out for probably most of the year. We have just moved into a brand new house and there IS NO spare money around at the moment. I am doing my best to beg for some, but it is not going good at the moment. Hopefully i might get out for the last couple of rounds. In the meantime i might as well try fix up all the little problems on the car.
i will be at WP to watch and say hi.........so anyone who may have a spare ticket please think of me

Don't worry, it is just like sex, you will never forget the first time. (and as you get more experianced your memory of the event blocks out the fumbling and akwardness!)

I forgot to mention the fast Swift should be returning to NSW tracks this year, hopefully, in the hands of Pete Tillett too.
