OPENING UP FOR BONEY...A DREAM COME TRUE
I am a board certified radiologist (MD) and a GOD taught saxophonist. Boney has been my idol (ever since the Trust album). I have seen him perform more than 10 times over the years. One New Year's Eve at his sound check prior to one of his shows in Charlotte, NC, I sneaked back stage (sax in hand) and played along with Boney as he was warming up. Will Downing politely and (sarcastically) asked me "are you playing tonight?" I was asked to leave and I did. One other
time JUST before his show at the Capital Jazz Venue, I was able to speak with him as he was warming up. MUSIC DOESN"T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS!!! (trust me)Although thousands of fans were roaring for him to play, he patiently gave me pointers which have helped me take saxophonin' to the next level. Once before, I was backstage with Boney (Portsmouth VA) I told him that I had to leave. He extended HIS hand in order to shake mine. Boney is one of the most courteous, talented musicians that I have ever met. His fame and fortune haven't gone to his head. I have several photos of Boney by himself, with Boney holding MY sax and Boney and me striking a pose. I could go on but I won't for now.
I am letting you know that on August 30, 2003 my day in the sun will come. I have been given the HONOR of opening the "Evening of Elegance" featuring Boney James at the BTI Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh, NC This black tie affair will allow me to display MY saxual prowess. This will be the perfect appetizer that will prepare the audience for the REAL show! Smooth, seductive sizzling sax is what I'm all about (when I'm not practicing medicine).
