Parking done right for STH...
Got the memo on this in the mail, as I'm sure many of you did, and now that I have secured my spot I will share ;)

"The Charlotte Checkers are excited to announce that they have secured an exclusive Season Ticket Holder parking lot for next season. This lot will be located on 6th Street between Brevard and Caldwell. For just $6. a game, you can park in this affordable and safe lot located one block from the New Charlotte Arena. There are only 300 slots so please contact the Checkers front office"

I don't have the picture to share, but I can tell by looking at the flyer (which shows great action pics of Westy, Cutter & Rory) that the lot is like next door to the new arena. Got to pay up-front though ($216. for the whole season, you can pay half now, half later. GREAT JOB CHECKERS!!!!!!!! Thanks for looking out for us!:grouphug

Re: Parking done right for STH...
I'm not overexcited by this, although i will continue to show my support for the Checkers by getting my season tickets, i worry about the price of parking for non season ticket holders, the ghost of the parking prices is about to rear its ugly head i think.

This parking should be offered to the older fan's of the Checkers first.

Cheers

Unless of course you are season ticket holder #301. Then you are stuck paying outrageous parking prices, perhaps as much as a game ticket. But hey, at least the first 300 get cheap spots, the rest well ....

I guess it's better than nothing.

Hey guys, we all knew changes were coming, this is the price we have to pay to see Hockey. I'm willing and hope you are too.

Yeah, it's different but it is not changing back...and it is better than nothing.

So what is in evidence?
If 300 hundred season ticket holders are being offered a
special deal of safe, affordable, and convenient parking
that is $6 and a block away, what's the alternative? LOL

That's what I'm wondering. $6 seems steep IMO for STH parking...

Who said it was safe? If you have been reading the naysayers' posts on here for the last year, then you would know that everyone will be mugged, raped or killed when we move uptown. They also think it's gonna cost them $15-20 to park for each game. There are plenty of other parking arrangements around the new arena that are just as close as this parking lot. The Checkers have negotiated with the owners of this lot and they have negotiated a price of $6 per game. It's a good deal. However, considering it's a lot and not a garage, then there are a limited number of spaces available. First come, first serve. If you want to be able to park in this lot, then get your money in. If not, then that's your decision. I don't think the Checkers set out to screw STH #301-3001.

My point is that nothing says the other parking in the area won't be the same price or even lower. NOTHING is KNOWN at this time. But some of these people would rather sit around and bitch and moan about the woe of having to move uptown. Well, you can bitch and moan all you want, but I (and the rest of us) are gonna go uptown, watch some Checkers hockey and have a great time.

DF, it's understandable that you would think that $6 is high for parking considering that parking at your arena is free.:p Parking was $6 at Cricket Arena, also. But, for STH I believe it was $5. I'm wondering if they sold parking to 300 STH at Cricket.

While it's true parking at Gwinnett is free, I do get "out and about" quite frequently. It's been my experience that the non-STH parking is generally (unless you're out West, they are IMO nuts) in the $3-5 range, which makes $6 for STH seem a little high, IMO. I didn't say I felt it was high for the area, just in general.

I know you get out and about a lot. So do I (maybe not quite as much as you, but I do get out there).

The parking lot at Cricket Arena is owned and controlled by the City of Charlotte, not the Checkers. The city set the prices. The Checkers were usually able to negotiate a deal on parking for $1 less than the regular price. So, again, last season, parking was $5 for STH and $6 for everyone else. Yeah, it's high, but Charlotte wants to be Atlanta. Reading's STH parking is also high. And, for regular folks, it's $6. Reading is NOT a big city. And, may I remind you that Greenville's parking 2 seasons ago was $7!

Re: Parking done right for STH...
Yeah Reading is not a big city but parking his high because they can charge what they want...they are 45 minutes from Philly where it costs minimum $50 to get in to see the Flyers...and $10 to park.... Fly out of Philly sometime...Satellite parking is $12 a day....where as here in Charlotte it is $3.

Where there is demand...they can charge what the want. There is a large population of people around Reading where hockey is a big sport. Plus folks that live in the suburbs of Philly are closer to Reading than Philly. Look how many folks Reading draws.....doesn't seem to be keeping fans away up there. $5 or $6 is the norm these days...When you have a center city arena....independent lots will charge what the want....prices will change the first season as to whether they charge too much, or not enough...

If folks don't want to pay to park, then park in some of the free areas. I know of 3 garages downtown that do not charge if you leave after 8PM. Whether this stays the same, who knows.....suck it up folks....its Hockey Season....if you are whining about the parking situation....it was $5/$6 last season at Cricket...I can't see it being more than that this year....and if it is, big deal...start saving your money now....or better yet....just buy one less Chuck-A-Puck and you can save that dollar for parking.....

Re: Parking done right for STH...
Well, hopefully the Trolley will be running before and after the Checkers games this season. I just got an email back from the CATS trolley manager, and he has stated that they are going to try and run the trolley during events at the new arena. The details havent been worked out yet, but they hope to have that done before the 1st event there.
