Patterns!
Hello Ladies!:wave

My, it has been a while since I've been on here! Things have been soooo busy around my house,:eek I've only had time to jump on every once in a while to check out posts.

I'm thrilled with the added posting sections!:clap Especially this one! I love sewing!:love I make (am working on getting my summer wardrobe in shape) most of my clothes, and have some wonderful patterns I thought I'd share with you.

The first one is a Butterick Costume pattern #3418. It is a really neat LONG gored skirt. (Gibson Girl type) I made one in heavy Denim material for winter. It is my all time favorite skirt! It only took me a little over a day to make it. (Oh yes, I also added pockets. That is really easy to do. Just use any other pocket pattern that you have/like.) I'm going to make some in Calico and muslin for a cooler summer wear. Pattern #3417 goes along with it, and is a high-necked, leg 'o' mutton sleeves, button-up-the-back blouse. I haven't made one yet, (and when I do I'm going to do some alterations) but I'm planning on making dresses combining this pattern and the skirt pattern.

Here are a couple Patterns that I haven't made yet, but plan on making some for next winter. Simplicity #8375 is a very interesting pattern. There is a optional bustle, but otherwise it would make a very nice outfit! I like style C. #7157 is a undergarment pattern There is a LONG slip/petticoat type thing, and a "Camisole with Bloomers." (as they call it) I want to make the slip thing to wear under my dresses and skirts for the winter. It gives you warmth without the extra bulk at your waist with a plain petticoat.

O.K. I'm almost done. ;) Just two more. One is a Simplicity #8071 "6 made easy" dress pattern. I have made one before, it is very easy, and is a nice comfy simple dress. (I unfortunatly cut my hem to short:eek so gave it to my sister!) It is slightly high waisted, but that can be easily fixed. Lastly, McCall's #8107. It is my favorite dress pattern. It is a pretty Princess Seam dress. I made one in calico out of style A. There is also a sleeveless style that could easily be made into a jumper.

Well ladies, that is all for now, except for a couple questions. Does anyone know how to keep Calico from shrinking? These days, they say you don't have to pre-shrink it before sewing, but the last dress I made has been shrinking every time I wash it. It has shrunk about 3 inches. the funny thing is, that it only seems to be shrinking at the bottom - the hem keeps crawling up! The bodice doesn't seem to be getting any tighter.

I would love to see what dress or skirt pattern you all have found to be good! I could always use more ideas!:idea

I'll close for now! Have a blessed day in JESUS!

In HIS love,
Faith <><

Re: Patterns!
Dear Faith,
Hello! Thankyou for sharing the patterns! I think I will look into the skirt pattern you mentioned.
About shrinking...I don't know where you heard that material doesn't need to be shrunk, but I very much disagree! :) My mother does a lot of sewing, and she has found it very important. (she soaks the material in hot water, and then puts it in the dryer until it is almost dry)
Hope this helps!
With love,
Atlanta

Re: Patterns!
Hello!
I'm a clothing newbie! I love to sew!:love
I've just finished my first quilt! It's a Log Cabin, double queen, extra long!
But all I've sewn is very simple and very plain elastic-waisted skirts. They're great for mucking around in (Which I do very much, living on a farm:farm )
But I need serous help! So thanks for your patterm suggestions! I will definatly looking out for those patterns.
My question is: What should I start out with?
Thanks again!

Hello, Jenny!
Another pattern you might look into is Butterick (fast and easy) 3262. It has three styles -- I would recomment style C. It is just a plain A-line skirt with a side zipper. I always add in a simple side slit pocket on the side opposite the zipper. Anyways, I really like the pattern and have made myself two skirts with it (one out of denim and one twill). And as soon as I can I'm going to make another one. :)
